The Primary Care Physician must be responsive to the policies and procedures of the command and the incumbent’s professional abilities will be delineated by the Credentials Committee. There is no direct supervision and the incumbent exercises independent judgment in the diagnosis and management of the full range of conditions encountered in the Internal Medicine Clinic. Medical diagnoses are not reviewed and the individual has consider able latitude for professional decisions. Work is evaluated through peer review, chart audits, and patient feedback.
Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. 1346(b while acting within the scope of their employment.

Responsibilities
As a Physician (Internal Medicine) you will:
1. Serve as a board certified Internal Medicine Specialist providing primary care to adult patients who have both acute and chronic illnesses of all complexities. The physician examines, diagnoses, treats, and follows patients with a wide range of medical problems to include heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, chronic liver disease, cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and thyroid disorders. Physician orders laboratory and radiologic studies appropriately to ensure cost effective care; performs medical boards and Temporary Disability Retired List (TDRL) evaluations; provides consultation and recommendations on patients referred from outlying clinics or other services; collaborates with subspecialists and other services on complex patients requiring a multi-disciplinary approach. Renders urgent treatment and hospitalizes patients as required.
2. Perform common Internal Medicine procedures such as exercise stress testing, thoracentesis,
paracentesis, lumbar punctures, and soft tissue and joint injections; interprets Electrocardiograms(EKGs), Holter monitor readings, and pulmonary function tests.
3. Supervise medical students, interns, and residents in the teaching program and serves as attending physician on the wards and in the intensive care unit. The physician provides education to physicians in training on a wide variety of Internal Medicine topics through formal and in formal lectures and participation at morning report and teaching conferences.
4. Complete administrative tasks in a timely manner; attends key staff meetings; participates in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives. Maintains state licensure and meets annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements. Administrative focus includes quality improvement, risk management, safety, patient satisfaction, employee discipline/reward, infection control, etc. The physician focuses on quality issues on all aspects of the clinic concurrent with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) criteria; participates in required hospital meetings as appropriate; and attends training necessary for both medical and administrative responsibilities.
5. Performs on call duties as the Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) after normal duty hours. MOD duties may involve being called back to duty for an emergency situation and the MOD must be readily accessible by telephone or pager during the duration of his/her call period.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Physician (Internal Medicine):
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled(Internal Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
