The Finance Manager position reports directly to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) Finance Director and performs the more complex professional and analytical work involved in the field of finance and administration. This position may supervise a wide variety of occupational classes, including administrative services officers and clerical support staff.
Typical Duties
Performs any combination of administrative or financial duties in the MNPD Finance division.
Prepares and manages project schedules and budget projections related to non-salary, travel, grants, special purpose funds, capital, etc.
Participates in meetings related to the preparation and implementation of the FY Budget.
Oversee preparation of statistical and financial reports.
Assists in developing and evaluating departmental policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and work methods.
Evaluates program regularly to insure efficiency and consistency with department goals and policies.
Confers with MNPD Finance Director and recommends changes for improving operational effectiveness.
Performs supervisory duties.
Administers personnel policies and makes recommendations for disciplinary action.
Provides MNPD Finance Director with R12 (Oracle) & Workbrain (MNPD software) data to assist with planning and decision making.
Directs preparation of administrative, financial, special reports using R12 and Workbrain as information sources.
Assists with developing, preparing justification, presenting, and monitoring the annual budget.
Coordinates budget and personnel functions for department.
Evaluates employee performance.
Approves Leave Requests.
Oversees budget management and reporting.
Serves as back-up to the MNPD Finance Director in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would prepare the incumbent to perform the duties of the position at the appropriate level. Employees would typically have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years experience in professional finance including three (3) years experience as a supervisor.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field
Finance related professional certifications
