Job Title: Director of Finance
Employment Status: Part-Time; Exempt (32 hours Monday-Friday)
Reports To: Executive Director of Business Administration
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: To give overall direction to and provide management of the financial affairs of the church.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Business Administration and with the oversight and support of the Financial Management Committee of the Session, the Director of Finance is responsible for:
· Managing the maintenance of complete and accurate accounting records for all church financial activity.
· Executing all financial responsibilities related to the following:
o Asset and liability accounting.
o Fund accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP and nonprofit accounting).
o The receipt of cash and contributions.
o The expenditure of church funds.
· Preparation of relevant financial and budgetary reports to governing authorities, Session, committees, ministry support teams and other groups as they require.
· Establishing and maintaining sound internal control policies and procedures.
· Preparing and managing the church operating budget and related policies in conjunction with the Executive Director of Business Administration.
· Administering financial commitments, licenses, and contracts in accordance with church policy.
· Participating in the work of the Financial Management Committee, Endowment Committee, and Stewardship Committee as an ex officio member.
· Assisting in the implementation and communication of the annual Stewardship program and special fund-raising efforts (e.g. Capital Campaign).
· Developing policies and procedures for processing and approving expenditure of church funds.
· Protecting church, employee, congregant and member proprietary information.
· Managing periodic outside reviews/audits and coordinating preparation of supporting documentation along with the Accounting Manager.
· Approving and signing financial commitments and contracts as authorized by the Financial Management Committee.
· Managing the bank account cash positions through transfers and timely deposits.
· Banking relationships and communications in conjunction with the Executive Director of Business Administration.
· Managing the accuracy and timeliness of all types of deposits through various means: electronic, check, or cash.
· Managing the timeliness and accuracy of all disbursements.
· Reconciling bank accounts and ensuring regular research and clearing of stale dated items.
· Generating quarterly Contribution Statements and coordinating the mailing thereof with Stewardship.
· Assisting ministry support in the area of Stewardship for ad hoc reports, as needed.
· Preparing and generating the Annual Report, Annual Salary Reports, and other denominational reports.
· Ensure compliance with all legal and reporting requirements of the payroll function.
· Managing and supervising payroll administration.
· Fulfilling any other responsibilities deemed necessary by the Executive Director of Business Administration.
SUPERVISORY:
To fulfill these responsibilities, the Director of Finance directly supervises the following position:
· Finance Manager
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and a devotion to God.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and minimum of five years of experience in accounting and general office operations.
· Computer literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and capacity to learn other programs as needed.
· Familiarity with or willingness to learn Presbyterian polity.
· Ability to communicate effectively with church congregants, staff members and vendors.
· Ability to solve problems in a positive manner.
· Ability to work efficiently and effectively on teams as well as individually.
· Desire to seek creative ways to improve the efficiency of church operations.
· Be an enthusiastic supporter of the larger ministry of LCPC.
