The Director of Accounting will play a key role in supporting the Accertify business unit within Global Network Services (GNS). The Director of Accounting will be responsible for month-end close, including approving journal entries, and ensuring accuracy of results in partnership with Controllership. Additionally, this role will maintain appropriate financial controls, ensure remittance of tax reports, maintain linkages across financial systems, and lead a team responsible for billing, AR, and collections for our global clients. The position will report to the Lead Financial Officer for GNS and lead a four person team.
The successful candidate should embrace a continuous improvement mindset in looking for ways to improve productivity, reduce costs, and streamline processes. The Director of Accounting should also have the proven ability to drive change through effective collaboration, and strong organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a team focused on broad financial activities such as revenue recognition, invoicing and collections, booking journal entries, reviewing capitalizable activities, and business reporting
Maintain subledger financial system and identify opportunities to automate processes, optimize system performance and free up teams capacity to drive strategic initiatives
Partner with Amex Tax to ensure compliance with tax regulations and operationally execute any collection and report remittance
Create and maintain financial controls to ensure an environment of control and compliance
Build linkages across multiple financial disciplines to elevate team performance and drive financial results
Provide leadership and coaching across a broad set of financial responsibilities
Qualifications
Accounting degree or business degree with strong accounting/controller experience, CPA preferred
Proficiency in NetSuite a plus
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to a wide range of colleagues across band levels and organizational disciplines
Continuous improvement mindset
Strong attention to detail and quality control
Track record of effectively coaching and developing colleagues
Must be able to delegate and influence across the greater team
