The DOI will head investment strategy and portfolio management for the practice. They would work in conjunction with the Wealth Management Advisor and an investment operations team to bring forward a first-class experience for clients. The DOI will be tagged into client meetings as the subject matter expert on all things related to the client’s investments. They will also be a key thought leader on all portfolio design and takeover proposals. In addition, the DOI may work on research, commentary, and other projects. Initially, they would work with the current CFA which facilitates portfolio construction and research.
Responsibilities Overview:
· This position will be responsible for the investment strategy and recommendations within the practice. This would include:
o Working with the WMAs to research and refine the investment strategy
o Creating investment takeover proposals and conducting portfolio analysis
o Interact with clients as the subject matter expert on their portfolios, market and economic trends and benchmark performance
o Conducting research and providing written commentary to clients
o Creating executive summaries and talking points on client accounts
o Monitoring and giving direction on how to trade accounts (rebalance, tactical tilts, tax loss harvesting)
o Oversee trading and client onboarding experience
· Ensure the Wealth Management Advisor is briefed on investment updates prior to meetings along with being able to interface with clients themselves to best explain analysis and recommendations in their situation. It is important for the director of financial planning to both understand how to read and input variables in a financial scenario along with being able to effectively communicate the output and recommendations of a plan to a client.
Core Functions:
Trading and Rebalancing
· Monitor concentration percentages of positions across book of business.
· Monitor cash flows into accounts and execute trades accordingly
§ Utilize proprietary trading platform to maintain proper asset allocation
§ Initial trading for new assets and transferred assets
§ Tax loss harvesting – some block traded, and many done on an account by account basis
§ Executing on strategic shifts in portfolio construction in all accounts.
· Facilitating account openings with the assistance of another investment professional on the team
· Manage process for the opening and onboarding of client accounts
Economic Market Analysis
· Maintain knowledge on broad market, economic trends and global issues.
· Analyze prevailing market conditions and their effects on the portfolios.
· Perform a correlation review of all asset classes held in models to determine the portfolios’ standard deviation.
· Periodically write market commentary.
· Participate as part of the Investment Committee by offering options on market movements, portfolio changes and risk management.
· Answer advisors’ questions on all trading activity, market analysis and portfolio rebalancing.
· Assist in marketing efforts of products by giving sales and training presentations.
· Assis advisors in client conference calls, virtual and in person.
Research and due diligence.
· Coordinate efforts amongst the staff to finalize changes to portfolio
· Use Morningstar and other research services to analyze new and current investments.
· Research fund and manager alternatives and maintain watch list on existing investments.
· Perform due diligence on managers to verify they are maintaining their investment discipline and performing relative to their peers.
· Design high net worth portfolios including separate account managers and alternative investments.
Basic Requirements
· Minimum of 4-7 years of experience as a licensed financial professional.
· FINRA Series 7
· FINRA series 65 or 66
· CFA or CFP track
