Position Summary
Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville, TN is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team.
The Staff Accountant is a highly-motivated individual responsible for assisting the development and operations accounting teams to provide timely and accurate financial reporting of assigned properties. Responsibilities may include creating development draw packages, booking journal entries for month-end close, reconciliation of accounts on a monthly basis, completing monthly bank reconciliations, and other duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform monthly full-cycle accounting functions for multiple Multi-family/Commercial developments including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and monitoring/reviewing receivables and payables.
- Assist with preparation of the monthly construction draw process for multiple entities and assist with the month-end financial close process of all related entities, including related owner entities.
- Review job costs for budget variances, cost code errors, and other posting errors on invoices, etc.
- Assist with cash management of multiple entities
- Assist with year-end audits and tax returns.
- Participate in special projects and prepare ad-hoc reports as required.
- Preparation of monthly financial statements and related balance sheet reconciliations.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
- Strong analytical and organizational skills required, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent time management skills, drive to take initiative, use of good judgment, strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, in order to carry multiple projects through to completion
- Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers through email, on the phone and in person
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel
- Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting
- 1-3 years of applicable accounting experience required
Preferred Education And Experience
- Real estate/property management related accounting experience a plus.
- CPA license/CPA candidate considered a strong plus
- Sage CRE and/or Yardi experience preferred
