We are seeking a talented Director of Finance to join a fun, culinarily focused, family oriented team that promotes an unrelenting passion for the guest at Parakeet Cafes and Juiceries located in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange Counties.
Applicants must be able to work well as part of a team, be high energy and organized, and possess the ability to take direction and give direction with a willingness to learn while building an accounting department from the ground up.
Job Description
To effectively manage all aspects of accounting and finance operations including but not limited to recruiting, onboarding, training, coaching, counseling, creating and adhering to company policy, applying/implementing daily operating procedures, tracking progress and developing systems. Must have “lead by example” and committed “do what ever it takes” attitude while utilizing proper delegation to ensure completion of strategy. Other responsibilities include monitoring adherence to all laws and state and federal guidelines along with reporting information to Executive Management and Ownership.
Anticipated Workload
40+ hours per week, 5 days a week.
Reports to: Vice President of Operations
Duties and Responsibilities
◦ Budget and forecast for the month and year ahead and make presentations to the CEO
◦ Prepare for financial audits and ensure that everything is prepared correctly
◦ Prepare financial reports that can be used both internally and externally
◦ Conduct in depth financial analysis and offer advice to executives
◦ Prepare the financial statements at month and year end
◦ Continuous research to improve the systems and procedures in place, always looking for a better and more efficient way to get the job done
◦ Help with developing the company and its budgets
◦ Manage, input, verify and report all staff accounting. Reconcile as needed, report to corporate. Coach/counsel staff and hold accountable for errors. Including but not limited to daily credit card entries and tip claiming.
◦ Identify break violations, split shifts, clock in errors and other time related issues. Coach/counsel staff as needed on time keeping issues as needed.
◦ Adhere to company training procedures for all positions. Implement and train supporting supervisors and management on procedures for successful training of new and existing staff.
◦ Identify opportunities for improved performance, audit staffing, presentation, and execution on all items at all times. Always be looking for opportunities to improve. Identify, address or improve any policy or procedure utilizing proper approval methods with General Managers and Executive Team.
◦ Train staff on all policy, daily procedure and other key functions. Coach/counsel supporting staff as needed.
◦ Facilitate inventory management system. Work with supporting management to ensure complete product inventory taken and tracked on weekly basis.
◦ Work with General Manager and Executive Management to ensure all labor laws are being followed and company minimizes exposure. Ensure break laws are adhered to and company properly complies with CA law if breaks are missed. Coach/counsel staff on importance of breaks and ensure staff knows about resting breaks and meal breaks and their ability to utilize both.
◦ Attend weekly manager meetings. Assign projects/goals and timelines as needed. Report progress to General Manager and Executive Management.
◦ Oversee, conduct, create and manage staff education. Address key items, low performers or items requiring additional staff knowledge.
◦ Execute any other projects as requested within timely manner.
ESSENTIAL WORK SKILLS:
· Ability to multitask and perform required tasks in a rapid and organized manner.
· Must have 5 years in a similar role
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Accounting Software
· Advanced knowledge of accounts and reporting software’s
· Must possess a strong and positive work ethic
· Experience within restaurants is essential
· Outstanding communication and strong interpersonal skills
