Essential Functions
Promotes and follows the City’s mission statement, values and expectations.
As may be assigned, records and maintains general ledger accounts of the city; keeps general ledger in a timely and accurate manner in order to reflect actual financial activity and position of the city; records and posts journal entries; balances and reconciles general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers or accounts; reconciles bank statements; adjusts and makes corrections to general ledger accounts as needed to remedy errors or omissions; updates general ledger information monthly or as needed.
Coordinates account recording efforts with clerks to record data and maintain subsidiary ledger system; helps assure accuracy and timeliness of recorded information; performs assigned reconciliation of subsidiary information to the general ledger; on assigned areas, reviews work performed by others which affects ledger and account balances, assures accuracy and makes corrections or adjustments in subsidiary ledger systems.
Helps prepare regular and special financial reports (such as consolidated annual financial report, annual budget document and various monthly financial reports) to aid city managers in decision making; researches and assembles financial information; conducts surveys or utilizes similar information instruments to locate comparative information; prepare text, graphic and similar representations of financial information to assure common interpretation and understanding of the information; offers interpretations as needed.
Assists Senior Accountant with internal audit functions; gathers information, interviews, inspects, counts, etc. as assigned or delegated; coordinates with external financial auditors, providing working papers, schedules and information as requested; coordinates field testing of financial records; assists to conduct project, program and performance audits within various city departments; assures the integrity of city‑wide accounting and financial management processes.
Assists with city asset control program; assures that all equipment and assets are properly identified and assigned to proper departments; assures integrity of asset accountability by performing periodic asset audits and updates related records as needed.
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from college with a bachelor’s degree in accounting;
AND
Four (4) years of responsible experience related to above duties; preferably in a governmental accounting environment;
OR
An equivalent combination of education or experience.
