Description The City of Olathe is seeking a Community Enhancement Officer I.
This role is responsible for enforcement of the City of Olathe’s Unified Development Ordinance, Municipal Code, and International Property Maintenance Code with respect to building and property maintenance, housing, substandard building codes, zoning, and sign enforcement.
Will conduct inspections of residential, multi-family, industrial, and commercial developments.
Issues citations and testifies in court.
Key Responsibilities Performs field inspections during investigation to confirm and document violations and gather appropriate evidence to support findings.
Investigates complaints by citizens and communicates with the reported property owners.
Issues Notices of Violations based on documented evidence and in accordance with City policies and ordinances.
Research property ownership.
Issues citations, prepares cases for, and testifies in, court.
Maintains up-to-date case files in an electronic tracking system.
Interpret and explain codes to general public, violators, board members, community groups, other governing agencies and city departments.
Experience & Education Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Experience:
2 years increasingly responsible experience in property maintenance, zoning and sub-standard housing enforcement required.
Education:
High School diploma or GED requiredCertifications:
ICC Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector, Kansas Association of Code Enforcement required, American Association of Code Enforcement, ICC Zoning Inspector preferred.
Supplemental Information Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation including physical/drug screen.
