Title: Assistant Controller

Summary: The position of Assistant Controller is responsible for the day-to-day management of all financial operations of the business, as well as driving corporate financial initiatives. The Assistant Controller must have strong financial management and oversight skills and will manage a team of accounting professionals. Working closely with the financial leaders of the company, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing meaningful performance metrics coupled with the ability to quickly understand the implications of the company’s financial performance.

You’ll Be Responsible for:

• Enhancing financial reporting processes and systems to facilitate management decisions.
• Driving the accounting process and determine improvements to be made.
• Providing leadership and guidance to the business by supporting company efforts of revenue and earnings growth.
• Improving budgeting, reporting and controls, working to continually and consistently deliver a timely and accurate picture of the financial condition of the company.
• Preparing timely and accurate budgets and the reporting of those projections.
• Identifying key performance metrics and provide tracking and reporting of those metrics, helping to drive the growth of the company.
• Implementing and directing effective cash management strategy and provide risk management leadership for the business.
• Facilitating and building meaningful relationships with key stakeholders and influencers.
• Supporting, in conjunction with the Controller, interactions and communications with external parties, including investors, auditors, banks, reinsurers, and regulators.
• Being a key member of the leadership team, setting the standard of performance for your direct reports, and the company as a whole.

What You’ll Need To Be a Top Candidate

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration or related field required; Master’s in Business Administration or related degree preferred. CPA certification preferred.

Experience: Minimum of seven years of accounting and/or finance experience in personal property insurance with substantial and progressively responsible roles. Must have experience managing a team in an accounting setting.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Significant experience in both GAAP and statutory accounting techniques.
• Proven record of establishing, improving, and leading the day-to-day financial functions of an organization.
• Exposure to creating annual statements (Yellow Book).
• Experience with cash management functions in an insurance environment.
• Solid experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Knowledge of personal residential insurance and processing principles, practices, and procedure.

Your Environment

Working Conditions: Normal business office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.

Hours and Location: 8:30 – 5:30 Monday through Friday. This role is on-site in our headquarters in Tampa, FL.

Travel: Minimal travel required.
