Zinc Collective’s mission is to help deliver persistent Democratic majorities. We focus on running and funding programs, primarily at the federal level (House, Senate, Presidential) that retain and recruit talent and/or address infrastructure gaps across Democratic politics. Our three core programs are
DigiDems
, which embeds technology staff on competitive campaigns to help them win,
Blue Leadership Collaborative
, which creates the diverse campaign talent pipeline necessary to building Democratic majorities, and Zinc Labs,
which focuses on pilots that address talent and infrastructure gaps.
Launched in 2018, Zinc Collective is a fast paced, collaborative organization that is more akin to a startup. The team is data driven, solution oriented, passionate about the mission, and obsessed with delivering both high quality programs and continuous improvement.
In 2022 and beyond, Zinc Collective will continue to invest in talent and infrastructure gaps, aimed at ensuring that the Democratic ecosystem has what it needs to win.
Zinc collective is currently seeking a Director of Budget and Finance to join our diverse and high performing team.
The Director of Budget and Finance is responsible for managing the annual budget, overseeing all vendors and contracts, and serving on the Leadership Team while managing staff and consultants. This is a great opportunity for someone who has built budgets and accounting systems for large political organizations or political leaning non-profits, is passionate about Democratic politics, and eager to use their skill set to effect change in the Democratic space. Limited travel is required for this position.
Budget and Planning
Lead the budget creation process, managing program leads and stakeholders to deadlines and deliverables
Serve as a leader and strategic partner for matters pertaining to financial planning and analysis, revenue reporting, forecasting, and budget solutions and challenges
Work with the Director of Development to create income projections and track cash flow
Analyze and present monthly financial reports and narratives in an accurate and timely manner
Perform financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions
Provide financial leadership and serve as a partner and collaborator with project leads and the executive team
Lead all financial and accounting operations and processes, including contracts, banking, and external reporting
Prioritize budget transparency and understanding, creating trainings and professional development opportunities when needed for all staff and departments
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices including but not limited to tax laws, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Vendor Management
Manage the execution of contracts, including compliance and budget review.
Track all invoices and payments ensuring accurate accounts receivable
Develop and support adherence to expense policies
Prioritize policies that support strong customer service and responsiveness.
Leadership/Management
Serve as a member of the leadership team, prioritizing the needs of the organization alongside the budget and finance team
Manage a team of staff and consultants
Serve as a reference point and advisor on all things budget and accounting
Lead the growth strategy for the team, identifying gaps and hiring as needed
Empower, train and develop direct reports
A track record of working with campaigns, political action committees, Super PACs, or political leaning non-profit organizations.
Experience setting up a chart of accounts, drafting P&Ls, and reporting out to leadership and governance on org financial viability and impact.
Track record leading a team to meet specific metrics and goals while empowering individuals for professional growth. Ability to manage up and hold peers accountable to deadlines and process.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with both internal and external stakeholders, prioritizing accessibility and real-world translation for all staff, including those with limited budget experience or familiarity.
Willingness to do things differently, create cross-departmental relationships and goals, and appreciation for the best idea winning.
Ability to balance the day to day work with the long-term planning needed to sustain an organization.
Ability to problem solve, by identifying challenges, gathering information, assessing options, and determining a course of action.
Efficiency and comfort with Slack and Google Suite, responsiveness via email, and willingness to be accessible in a remote environment.
Experience with QuickBooks, ~~~, and Paylocity
Familiarity with state and federal compliance rules and regulations
Experience managing budgets across multiple entities

The annual salary for this position is between $145,000 and $155,000 and is commensurate with experience.
