Job Description
The YMCA of Youngstown is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking executive director with a proven, successful track record of developing a strong branch board, increasing annual giving, engaging community through increased membership and programs while advancing the Y’s impact in the community.
This highly motivated leader, who is impact-focused and entrepreneurial by nature will stewards the Y’s mission and core values promoting and protecting the cause, brand, and reputation within the community. Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader will have primary responsibility for day-to-day operations. Experience in and demonstrated track record of areas of staff supervision, and program development, fiscal management, fundraising, volunteer cultivation, and community engagement are required. The continued development and coaching of an experienced staff team to new levels of service will be key to achieving full potential. Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team for the YMCA of Youngstown and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA. Implements and maintains consistency in service standards and functional processes across branches.
Qualifications
1. Bachelors degree in human services, social services, business, or equivalent.
2. Eight or more years leadership experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
3. 2 years of successful experience managing large teams in an executive level/senior management position.
4. Business management skills and demonstrated ability to lead team leaders.
5. Fundraising: Proven ability to lead and grow Annual Campaign of $200,000 plus.
6. Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing, public relations, and program development.
7. Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
9. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
10. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations, corporations, and government agencies.
11. Passionate commitment to the YMCA mission, values, and purpose.
12. Polished, professional demeanor with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
13. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions
Mission & Cause Advancement
1. Fundraising & Stewardship-Responsible for the financial development of the branch Annual and Capital Campaigns to ensure branch is meeting or exceeding campaign goal. Increase Annual Campaign Budget to 10% of branch budget. Build relationships and steward volunteers and donors.
2. Collaboration-Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (eg, staff, volunteers, members, community leaders) develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
3. Volunteerism -Maintains diverse advisory councils that actively support the Y’s goals and strategic plans. Recruits, selects, and develops diverse volunteers for the branch advisory committee. Clarifies and reinforces the division of roles and responsibilities between corporate boards, management or advisory committees, staff, and general volunteers.
4. Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion- Builds bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y. Leads the branch in advocacy, training, and development for staff.
5. Relationship Building- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Responds to all inquiries, emails, messages and complaints in a timely manner.
6. Marketing -Directs branch marketing and communication efforts, in alignment with the MarCom Team and YMCA Branding Guidelines, to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
Management
7. Financial-Develops and manages branch budget to ensure revenue/expense and program services goals are achieved for a positisve budget. Manages Y’s resources responsibly and sustains the Y’s non-profit business model. Completes variance reports.
8. Talent-Ensures the association standards for talent management are implemented at the branch, including recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, training, development, supervision, performance management, recognition, and staff engagement. Maintain all required certifications, attend all required meetings, and training.
9. Facility-Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment. Works with VP of Facility Management to oversee progress on the capital improvement plan, including renovations and program area projects.
10. Risk-Oversees operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations and procedures, including Child Abuse Prevention, Praesidium Accreditation, emergencies, medical, facility use, aquatic safety, and disciplinary situations; reviews, completes and follows up on Incident Reports.
11. Program-Fosters a climate of innovation to develop programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies. Ensure all on-site programs are managed in accordance with the policies, values, and standards established by the YMCA.Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services.
Membership
12. Recruitment & Retention-Leads the branch in strategically recruiting and engaging new members, program participants, and community partners in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team. Maintains retention through high quality staff, programs & services, and facility maintenance and cleanliness. Participates in the Membership Leadership Team for the association.
13. Member Service & Engagement- Establishes and directs a culture of quality and service to meet and exceed the goals and objectives set forth in the strategic plan and standards established by the association. Creates an atmosphere where friendship, achievement, and belonging are developed in all programs and departments. Develops and directs high quality, relationship-based member engagement strategies.

Required Certifications
YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred, required within two years.
CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
