Controller Job Summary

The Controller is responsible for leadership and management of primary financial functions of Westfield including, but not limited to financial reporting (GAAP/SAP), taxes (federal, state, local), cash management, general accounting functions, payroll/pension payment processes, and billing functions. This role develops and maintains key finance and banking relationships. Responsible for the financial system and related governance activities. Serves as a subject matter expert and advises on cross-functional finance activities to achieve corporate goals.
Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
Responsible for internal and external financial information and reporting for Westfield (insurance and non-insurance) including P&C insurance companies and non-P&C GAAP companies. Responsible for internal and external financial reporting on a consolidated and individual company basis in conformity with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) including audited financial statements, Ohio Department of Insurance and Federal Reserve compliance filings.
Responsible for compliance, accounting, and planning for federal, state, local, and foreign taxes for Westfield.
Responsible for corporate cash management/treasury activities including managing short term cash reserves, banking services, processes, and performance management. Responsible for development and maintenance of banking relationships.
Accountable for management of the finance unit, including but not limited to implementing best practices for:
talent management (employee selection, succession planning, performance management, compensation management, employee development and coaching in career development), and operational management (planning, execution, results assessment, continuous improvement, and introducing finance industry best practices).
Responsible for accounting and reporting for investment portfolio assets including settlement and custody. Responsible for development, maintenance, and evaluation of investment custody and trustee relationships.
Responsible for general accounting functions including cash receipts/cash disbursements, draft processing, claims payments processing, 1099 reporting, general ledger posting, fixed asset accounting, benefits accounting, and escheats.
Required Qualifications
Property and Casualty Insurance Experience.
Accounting degree and CPA.
Desired Qualifications
10
years of experience in accounting and/or tax related work.
Global/international experience.
Extensive knowledge of GAAP, tax and other accounting principles (e.g. SAP).
Experience with and strong working knowledge of financial statements.

years of people leadership experience, including at least 2
years of experience in leading other leaders.
Masters, MBA, or commensurate experience.

Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40
hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods of time).

Ability to travel as required.
