DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The position plays a financial guidance role interacting with other divisions of A&FS, ANR, campuswide departments and the medical center as well as with other UC campuses and the Office of the President.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Accountant V and Assistant Controller, the incumbent serves as a critical member of General Accounting. The incumbent must understand all of the attributes connected to the Chart of Accounts to ensure proper financial reporting at the local and consolidated UC level; assist in the preparation of components of the UC Davis financial statements, management discussion and analysis and notes including support for the disclosures; provide analytical and functional support for cash flow and financial statement forecasting, pull data as requested and reconcile to the ledger and financial statements, and special projects as assigned. Incumbent plays a campuswide financial guidance role by offering technical, advisory and interpretive support of accounting policies and procedures; and provides testing support of financial system changes/implementations.

• Extensive experience in accounting, auditing, or financial management.
• Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), theory, practice and standards as they relate to financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance and reconciliation of accounts.
• Experience working with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) accounting standards related to financial statement preparation.
• Experience analyzing information and situations independently, identifying problems and relevant factors, formulating logical conclusions and recommending solutions.
• Extensive experience using Excel, reporting tools and/or equivalent applications to develop complex spreadsheets and ad hoc reports including but not limited to pivot tables, Sumifs, and Vlookups.
• Experience creating queries using querying tools such as SQL Oracle commands.
• Demonstrated analytical skills to synthesize a high volume of information from a variety of sources and perform complex analysis to interpret and summarize financial data.
• Experience working with ERP-level automated and computerized financial systems, including Oracle products.

Preferred:

• Experience preparing GAAP financial statements.
• Organizational experience in planning, setting priorities, multi-tasking, and adapting to changing priorities while meeting required deadlines.
• Oral and written communication skills to relay complex information.
• Knowledge of college and university accounting, fund accounting principles, audit techniques, internal control standards.
