The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Looking for Director of Finance/Controller at Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area Full Time

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance/Controller is responsible for the SPCO’s accounting, financial reporting, and internal control and compliance activities. The Director of Finance ensures timely completion of the annual financial statements and audit, IRS Form 990 and other tax filings; is responsible for the delivery of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to management, the Board of Directors, grantors, and other interested parties; organizes and controls the monthly financial close process, including the daily activities of general ledger accounting, fund accounting, receipts and accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting and tax reporting. The Director of Finance facilitates continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and maintains adequate internal controls for the safeguarding of SPCO’s assets, conducts research, provides financial accounting guidance to the broader organization, and manages and develops supporting staff. This position supports the CFO by coordinating Finance and Investment Committee meetings and providing support for budgeting and forecasting.

Primary areas of responsibility include:

• Oversight of SPCO’s accounting, financial reporting and internal control and compliance activities.
• Organization and management of monthly financial close process, including the daily activities of general ledger accounting, fund accounting, receipts and accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting and tax reporting.
• Hands-on role in complex accounting transactions and account and cash reconciliations.
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Providing support to CFO in annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes and in management of Finance and Investment Committees.
• Developing project budgets and reports for grantors.
• Preparation or oversight of documents for tax and state charities compliance.
• Preparation of financial and survey information for other third parties (e.g., League of American Orchestras).
• Developing reports, processes and acting as system administrator for Sage Intacct accounting system and managing integration of data with ticketing/development and payroll systems.
• Reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with Chief People Officer.
• Manages two direct reports.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent education and experience. 
• Minimum of five years of relevant, progressive, overall accounting experience.
• Minimum of two years supervisory experience.
• Deep, hands-on knowledge of a state-of-the-art accounting system; advanced level of Excel.
•  Minnesota residency is required for this position. 

Desired Qualifications

• CPA license preferred.
• Experience in a non-profit organization with an operating budget of approximately $10 million.
• Experience in a performing arts organization.
• Experience with unions and collective bargaining agreements.
• Experience with Sage Intacct.
• Experience implementing financial systems and integrating external applications.
• Experience with AudienceView or other ticketing or customer relationship management system.
• Experience with major payroll processor (Paylocity preferred).
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Powerpoint and Sharepoint.
