The Director of Finance is a member of MITRE’s finance senior leadership team, responsible for leading MITRE’s $2.2B enterprise-wide finance and accounting operations. This role will partner with senior leadership of the Finance team and interact with the Executive Leadership Team across sectors and functions to develop and implement the Annual Operating Plans and forecasts. The position will lead and provide guidance to a team of senior financial professionals and managers that will serve as experts for coordination and training on processes, budget tools and best practices to support and drive MITRE’s financial objectives. The Director will provide insights and periodic analysis on the state of the business as well as support special projects aligned to MITRE’s Good Growth strategy.
In collaboration with the Finance Senior Leadership team, this role will be integral in shaping the long-term financial model, integrating inputs from the strategic planning process to help MITRE achieve corporate strategic and financial goals. Success in this position will include planning and executing new strategies, driving change and transformation. This role will report directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MITRE and is a member of the Finance senior leadership team.
The primary responsibilities of the Director of Finance are:
Reviewing and driving recommendations for financial planning and control, providing relevant fiscal information to MITRE’s executive leadership team
Monitoring Corporate, Sectors and Functions adherence to approved budget(s), providing recommendations for actions as necessary
Leading and enhancing reporting systems to facilitate the production of information, budgeting analysis, forecasting analysis, variance analysis, variance commentary, reporting and reviews, and presentation and project preparation.
Working closely with senior leaders to establish strategic plans and objectives, while making final decisions on implementation and ensuring operational effectiveness.
Developing and continually improving budgeting, financial projections, and operating forecasts
Overseeing key financial and accounting operations functions ensuring efficient execution to maximize MITRE’s value to our clients and government sponsors. Providing strategic leadership to advance, automate, and integrate financial and accounting operations as applicable.
Building enterprise-wide relationships – ensuring collaboration and cooperation, building a foundation of trust and inspiring engagement.
Developing, preparing, and presenting financial materials to management, incorporating key business insight and recommendations to achieve current and future goals

Required Qualifications:
15+ years of prior relevant experience
10+ years of progressive management experience, including leadership and development of high performing team.
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree in related field preferred.)
Strategic thinking – experience developing strategy, executing work programs, and conceptualizing downstream impact of key decisions.
Growth mindset – ability to map complex processes, build out a vision and case for change, design test pilots and continuously improve/iterate
Operational approach – understanding of and experience with real-world challenges and scenarios (vs lab environment)
Measurement driven – commitment to scientific methods and metrics with demonstrated quantitative analytical skills
Senior leadership partnership – proven ability to partner with senior leadership to establish innovative strategies and initiatives, and nurture programs in support of business objectives
Program and project management – proven experience managing comprehensive work programs, using both broad and targeted strategies to advance the organization’s strategic mission and goals. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering to or exceeding plan goals.
Change management – proven success leading or supporting large-scale change management initiatives and/or transformations
Communications – experience supporting senior and executive leadership communications in one-on-one and small group settings, to drive consensus and lead change management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including superior storytelling and PowerPoint/presentation skills
Relationship management – ability to develop network of positive relationships among officers and directors as well as excellent customer relationship management
Problem-solving – must have proven ability to problem solve and execute plans while operating in a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities.
Exceptional people management skills – ability to quickly establish and maintain trust, credibility, and confidence with a diverse staff (of varying levels, functions, and perspectives
Excellent coaching and problem-solving abilities – highly attuned/active listening, root cause identification and ability to effectively translate feedback and steer above-the-line thinking while remaining empathetic to natural fear/resistance to change.
