Accounting Specialist
SALARY: $19.39 – $23.60 Hourly $1,551.20 – $1,888.00 Biweekly

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: Tehama County Health Services Agency is committed to a healthy community. DESCRIPTION: Performs specialized technical expertise and detailed accounting work required to support complex County functions. Maintains County financial accounts and records and assists in the preparation of financial reports and analysis. Provides responsible technical and clerical accounting support to professional staff.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Conducts and/or provides lead direction on support work for the most difficult, sensitive, and/or highly technical accounting assignments, studies, or projects; monitors processes and timelines. | Maintains, audits, verifies, and reconciles a variety of accounts, reports, journals, budgets, or related fiscal or statistical data; summarizes and posts data as required.| Provides quality control. | Processes claims, invoices, purchase orders, payments, contracts, and bids. | Balances financial information system controls; balances and posts cash receipts, payments, and registers. | Balances various other statistical and financial transactions. | Works with County departments, other governmental agencies, and the public to prepare a variety of tax forms, calculations, distributions, and special reports. | Provides information to the public, external agencies, institutions, or County staff that requires the use of judgment and the interpretation of rules or procedures. | Meets with the public to obtain data, interpret information, and answer questions. | Performs a variety of general office support work such as organizing and maintaining various files, typing correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents; proofreads and checks materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with County and department policies and regulations. | Prepares and maintains computerized financial spreadsheets for ledgers and statistical records. | Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Terminology and practices of financial and accounting document processing and record keeping, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing | Fundamental principles and practices of fund accounting and public agency budgeting | Record keeping, information processing requirements, and rules and policies related to the production of an employee payroll | Computerized finance systems and computer software related to accounting processes | Principles and practices of auditing payroll, accounts receivable, and other accounting and finance documents | Applicable Federal, State, County, Department, and Division laws, regulations, policies and procedures | Techniques for dealing effectively with and providing a high level of customer service to all individuals contacted in the course of work
ABILITY TO: Prepare financial reports and maintain ledgers and journals through the use of spreadsheets and/or word processing | Review financial documents for completeness and accuracy | Interpret, apply, and explain a variety of Federal, State, and local regulations, policies, and procedures of fiscal record keeping and accounting | Analyze data and draw logical conclusions; identify and troubleshoot problems | Make accurate arithmetic, financial, and statistical computations | Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines | Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted on the job | Work independently and as a team member | Assemble and analyze information and prepare written reports and records in a clear and concise manner

RECRUITMENT INFORMATION: The department currently has one (1) vacancy. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Accounting Specialist, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
