Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Director of Finance will provide accounting and financial control work for the Finance Department.

Essential Functions

Organizational

• Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement company financial performance and evaluation processes.
• Organize the company’s financial planning and analysis staff for optimal effectiveness.
• Regular, predictable attendance and punctuality are required in this role.

Budgetary

• Implement and follow-through with system of collecting departmental budgetary needs.
• Establish monthly schedules for analysis and feedback with department heads for rolling twelve-month budget.
• Maintain budget schedules and files for annual preparation of operating plan and budget.
• Monitor and report any deviations from established budgets to departments and senior management for active response.
• Measure performance of managers in adhering to budgetary requirements.

Accounting Policy & Departmental Development

• Manage development of standard operating and internal control policies and procedures.
• Oversee annual and other audit functions and responsibilities.
• Oversee accounting and accounts payable staff to insure the most accurate tracking of accounting and department information.
• Oversee closing process to insure accurate transactional posting from all ancillary systems.
• Develop and implement performance-based budgetary control systems to plan and consistently meet company objectives.
• Provide informed financial input into the development of company planning calendars.
• Facilitate continual upgrading of the skill sets of accounting personnel.
• Responsible for the overall evaluation and timely reviews of accounting staff.
• Assist in developing training programs to educate non-financial managers in the understanding and interpretation of financial reports and budget-related information.

Financial

• Negotiate for best rates of merchant card processing fees and corporate insurance premiums.
• Reinforce bank lines of credit, simplifying banking relationships and reducing overall costs wherever possible.
• Collaborate with CFO to coordinate and manage negotiations to secure necessary working capital and term loan financing.
• Coordinate payment terms with purchasing to best match the corporate seasonal business cycle to improve balance sheet liquidity ratios.

Reporting & Systems Development

• Design, recommend and implement systems to enhance company analytical capabilities.
• Design, recommend and implement optimal management and financial reporting systems (demand-to-net reporting, weekly management reporting, monthly internal and external reporting packages, etc.).
• Develop methods and models for calculating cost of capital, evaluating capital structure, and risk-adjusted return on investment for key projects.
• Design and develop catalog marketing costing model and tracking systems.
• Reduce monthly reporting turnaround time through streamlining monthly closing processes and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
• Ten plus years of progressive accounting experience in direct marketing and retail industries preferred, but not required
• Five plus years of demonstrated leadership and team management experience
• CPA certification, preferred
• Public Accounting Experience, preferred
• Retail industry experience preferred
