Job Overview:
Summary: This position that will be effective through March 2025. This position under general supervision, is responsible for professional accounting work of average difficulty and supervisory work of routine difficulty; and performs related work as required. Under general supervision, performs specialized or general accounting tasks and are expected to exercise judgment and initiative in handling work assignments. Responsible for budget and accounting functions for all federal and state grants and contracts, annual reporting, and day-to-day functions of contracts within the Budget Contracts Management System (BCMS) and activities which include and are not limited to, budget revisions, contract amendments, and other requests as indicated.
Key Responsibilities:
Work Activities:
- Monitors federal and third party, grant, and program funds to ensure accurate fund results.
- Monitors reported expenditures of sub-recipients grant funds and other program funds for allowable and accurate reporting.
- Monitors flow of work in regard to subrecipient contracts within the Budget Contracts Management System (BCMS) and performs BCMS management functions per the Directors and program managers discretion.
- Interprets financial reports for non-accounting personnel in response to basic questions.
- Develops strategies for achieving departmental goals during end of year closing based on deadlines and best practices under the direction of assigned supervisor.
- Prioritizes daily tasks to meet deadlines and facilitate efficient task completion.
Supervisory relationships: Supervised by Assistant Commissioner
Personal Qualities: Must value cultural differences, be able to motivate others, work as a team member as well as independently, detail oriented, engaging, and be genuinely interested in working with populations experiencing an opioid use disorder and/or substance use disorder.
Hours per day or week: 37.5 hours per week; position currently effective through March 2025; position is currently remote but will be eventually located in Davidson County.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional accounting or auditing work.
OR
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree including thirty-six quarter hours in accounting and experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional accounting or auditing work.
Substitution of Graduate Education for Experience: Graduate coursework credit received from an accredited college or university in accounting may substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis to a maximum of one year (e.g., 36 graduate quarter hours in the above listed field may substitute for one year of the required experience).
OR
Designated as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Required Experience:
Minimum Qualifications, Necessary Special Qualifications, and Examination Method are determined by the appointing authority.
