About the Position

The Accountant Advance Position at the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity monitors and verifies accuracy of large and complex financial accounts and the financial data submitted by the foreign office of DCEO’s Illinois Trade Office. the ideal candidate will have a general knowledge of reconciliation procedures, state and federal accounting requirements, and record retention policies. Job Responsibilities

1. Routinely analyzes Comptroller and Dept. of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) computer-generated reports to ensure agreement and identifies items needing reconciliation.

2. Research foreign offices’ accounting documents and prepare electronic reports, reflecting relationships between accounts.

3. Utilizing Excel spreadsheets, routinely prepares accounting statements of reconciliation for each foreign office to be submitted to the Office of the Comptroller and the Office of the Treasurer.

4. Routinely analyzes DCEO Fixed Assets computer-generated reports to ensure agreement between financial records and changes/additions to the Agency’s fixed assets.

5. Establishes and maintains files of all documents and electronic records.

6. Prepares audit confirmations from external auditors for grantee records.

7. Performs other duties as requires or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting.

2. Requires two (2) years professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefers two years accounting experience with the State of Illinois

2. Prefers two years accounting experience conducting reconciliations procedures.

3. Prefers two years experience reviewing, analyzing, or auditing bank or loan financial statements.

4. Prefers two years experience completing and filing statutory or state/federally required reports.

5. Prefers two years experience utilizing SAP automated accounting system software.

6. Prefers intermediate level of expertise in use of electronic spreadsheet software.
