Summary:
Plans and directs accounting activities within the finance department of the organization by performing the following duties, personally or through subordinate staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Assists in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and/or payroll.
§ Supervises and participates in the preparation of various financial statements and reports.
§ Directs the installation and maintenance of accounting records to show receipts and expenditures.
§ Directs the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses, and insurance records.
§ Directs and participates in cost analyses and rate studies.
§ Prepares statements and reports of estimated future costs and revenues.
§ Directs internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls.
§ Establishes system controls for new financial systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems.
§ Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.
§ Reviews financial statements with management personnel.
§ Directs the installation and maintenance of new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls.
§ Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises the position of Financial Assistant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
§ Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or three to five years related experience. Must have verifiable experience with non-profit organizations and state/federal funded grants.
§ Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
§ Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
§ Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
§ Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have expert knowledge of QuickBooks Pro Accounting software; Email/Web Internet software Internet software; Excel Spreadsheets Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing word Processing software.
