The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the San Francisco, California region. To succeed in this role, you will need to plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. Candidates who can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo, will be preferred for this position. What you get to do every day
Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed
Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports
Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations
Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis
Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Respond on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management
Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation Requirements – 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
Sound written and verbal communication skills
Nonprofit Organizations experience
Foundational knowledge in Monthly Financial Statements
Background working with month end closings
Year-end Close experience highly preferred
Adeptness in month end closings
Demonstrated knowledge of Monthly Close
Deep understanding of Educational Institutions
General familiarity with Monthly Financial Close
Accounting 2000 experience desired
Earlier work involving Accounts Payable (AP)
Practical knowledge of Monthly Close Processes
Good understanding of Accounts Receivable (AR)
Experience with Prepare Financial Statements
Vow to meet business deadlines
Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Self-starter and strong ethical standards
Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes
Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued
