General Accountabilities The Head of Accounting Policy will, as part of working within an Agile organization, be responsible for creating the accounting policies of Resolution Life US to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States (US GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP). Close interaction with Resolution Life Group is required to help influence and advocate for RLUS positions. The Head of Accounting Policy will assist in the IPO readiness, LDTI, CECL, and the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures; monitor, assess and communicate the effects of proposed accounting standard changes; and spearhead the implementation of new accounting standards and development of relevant accounting policies. Duties And Responsibilities Proactively research new (and/or modifying) existing accounting pronouncements – to ensure the Company’s compliance with GAAP SAP and that all new accounting standards are accurately adopted Assist in the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures Develop and maintain effective and efficient relationships with internal and external customers as well as business partners/industry groups Provides proactive guidance on accounting implications of new products or transactions with a commercial mindset, and works with business line/functional leaders on implementation of changes to accounting policies and procedures Works to research and analyze proposed and/or completed transactions, and author Accounting Policy memorandums documenting those transactions Prepare and deliver training programs and other communications to educate the finance department and others on accounting changes Maintain current knowledge of topics arising from the FASB, AICPA, NAIC and all other governing bodies Support an environment of continuous improvement Work collaboratively with the Company’s independent audit firm on accounting policy matters/interpretations and transaction memos documenting accounting conclusions Qualifications Beyond experience, the right candidate will demonstrate the following leadership competencies and personal characteristics as the Head of Accounting Policy at Resolution Life US Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred Certified Public Accountant required with 6-10+ years of experience in a public accounting firm (Big 4 preferred) 4+ years investments or insurance industry experience with Accounting Policy experience preferred Credibility and character to liaise across corporate functions; ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues both within RLUS and Group Expertise in US GAAP and SAP Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop, coach and train others in an organizational setting Proficiency with Microsoft Office software Sense of urgency – ability to confirm to shifting priorities, demands and timelines, making adjustments accordingly and execute tasks in support of corporate goals Ability to influence others, including stakeholders, staff and other departments Concerned with customer satisfaction and consistently works to provide high level of satisfaction Ability to act independently in identifying problems while exhibiting judgement and a realistic understanding of issues and interdependencies Strong problem solving and decision-making skills High level of interpersonal skills, integrity and ethics Self-starter with a collaborative approach who values and encourages teamwork Strong analytical and research skills Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential and can tailor to audience Ability to prioritize multiple tasks Actively participate in and advocate for the Company’s interests within industry forums Critical Skills At Resolution Life, we have identified the following critical skills which are key to success in our culture: Customer Focused: Passionate drive to delight our customers and offer unique solutions that deliver on their expectations.
