POSITION SUMMARY: The Director, Corporate Accounting & Finance is responsible for overseeing the monthly and quarterly Corporate close process, Corporate budgeting and forecasting, and general accounting and internal controls. In addition, this role provides oversight to the Company’s accounting for landfill and other asset retirement obligations (AROs) and environmental remediation matters. The Director, Corporate Accounting & Finance reports to the Chief Accounting Officer and interacts frequently with the Chief Financial Officer, various Executive Vice Presidents, Controllers Group and field personnel, as well as Internal Audit and Market Planning & Development Departments.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees the monthly Corporate accounting close process, including oversight of close timelines as well as review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and other accounting analyses.
Oversees the monthly and quarterly close process for AROs and environmental reserves, including the review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and other accounting analyses.
Serves as the Company’s subject matter expert for fixed asset capitalization, including areas such as IT and landfill development.
Oversees the corporate budget and forecast process, and partners with Corporate departments to execute ad hoc financial analysis.
Oversees the annual landfill and environmental budget process and monthly forecasting process, including serving as a collaborative business partner to support Corporate and field Engineering.
Oversees the creation and management of technology platforms to house landfill and environmental budgets and forecasts as well as analyze results.
Performs risk assessment to design an effective control environment, and effectively performs internal controls oversight.
Manages the quarterly review and annual external audit of the Company’s financial statements.
Provides training and accounting guidance to field controllers and other corporate departments relating to accounting matters.
Manages and develops professional staff.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Public Accountant with a minimum of 12 years of combined experience at a Big 4 or Tier II National firm or public company SEC reporting experience and/or FP&A experience.
Experience leading a mid-size team of between 5 to 20 individuals.
Experience working with Oracle and Essbase or similar general ledger systems, reporting tools, and database tools.
Previous budgeting and forecasting experience.
Strong systems skills including Excel (including use of macros), general ledger, reporting tools, and database skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related discipline
Minimum of 10 years of combined public (Big 4 or Tier II National) accounting experience or public company SEC reporting experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in leading an External Reporting function that involved SEC disclosure and reporting, reconciliation, and accounting research.
