Job Summary
The Construction Accountant provides the controller with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts; preparing financial statements and handling bank draws.
Job Responsibilities
Perform monthly construction loan draws.
Financial and accounting support of projects for multiple contracts.
Assist with subcontractor management, invoicing requirements, and timeliness of deliverables.
Reconcile job cost to GL and other month and year-end standard practices.
Prepare WIP schedule and other supporting documents.
Prepare monthly internal financial statements for management review.
Manage Accounts Payables, including ensuring bills are paid timely and accurately as well as correcting coding of invoices.
Record journal entries and perform monthly account reconciliations.
Research and resolve discrepancies as needed.
Ensure that all accounting functions are performed correctly.
Perform month-end closing procedures for assigned projects.
Keep an up to date log of subcontractors.
Obtain/file new vendor W-9’s, reviewing logs weekly and updating any expired certificates.
Verification of lien releases, insurance, and W-9’s on file prior to mailing checks.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Minimum 7 years of construction project accounting and construction loan draws experience.
Accounting/GAAP knowledge, rules, and regulations.
4
years of experience using Sage 300 CRE.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel, Access, and Timber Scan.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects and accounts, as well as strong follow-through skills.
Ability to complete projects timely and accurately.
Direct experience handling preliminary notice logs, conditional & unconditional lien releases, certified payrolls, labor compliance issues, subcontractor progress draws, using a detailed schedule of values, and processing payments involving retention and joint check arrangements.
Must possess strong management, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer service principles and practices.
Effectively convey ideas, images, and goals to a diverse group of personalities.
Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and initiate.
Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
