Position Description:
The Director of Finance has oversight and direct responsibility for all accounting transactions and functions within a centralized Accounting Department. Primary responsibilities will include supervision of treasury, execute the month-end process, general ledger, receivable, payroll, taxes, and financial reporting for hotels and additional smaller entities on record. The Director of Finance will also be involved in financial analysis, and responsible for financial controls, asset and liability reconciliations and provides assistance on working capital and cash control. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the oversight of the daily operations of Premier Hospitality and Focus Management Groups’ accounting functions, including revenue reporting, general ledger, consolidations, reconciliations, inventory, accounts receivable, payable, and payroll taxes.
· Works collaboratively with the Vice President of Finance to develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures and other internal controls to provide for the control and safeguard of all company assets.
· Create, implement, and monitor all accounting systems to ensure timely, and accurate financial information and reporting to Corporate Leaders and Ownership.
· Manage the preparation of and review of as well as review of all financial reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness; and direct revision of reports and oversee for accuracy of the final product.
· Review cash disbursements to ensure accuracy, reasonableness, and compliance with established procedures, and release disbursements or investigate and resolve discrepancies.
· Ensures tax rates and sales tax at all entities are accurate and that proper amounts are collected and/or accrued; payment of real estate/property taxes are administered accurately and that tax exemption status of customer and group transactions are properly documented and administered accurately across the organization.
· Coordinate with key business leaders to manage accounting processes and appraise Corporate, Regional, and other key leaders of opportunities and potential risks.
· Keep abreast of industry trends to suggest and implement changes to current business practices for efficiency and other enhancements.
· Identify, hire, train, evaluate and mentor to create a team of highly engaged employees interested in reaching their highest potential within the organization. Ensures the team has the tools, guidance, and resources to achieve collaboratively agreed-upon goals and objectives.
· Work with subcontract labor on outsourced work. Review work and train as needed.
· Cross-train employees to support successful daily operations during high-demand periods, illness, and/or vacations.
· Ensure effective communications through ongoing standup, monthly and quarterly meetings to allow for information sharing and two-way communication on process improvement and best practices.
· Actively solicits employee feedback, utilizes an “open-door policy” and reviews employee engagement survey results for continual improvement. Addresses issues and employee problems and/or concerns proactively; creates awareness of business objectives and communicates expectations; recognizes performance and produces desired results.
· Establishes and maintains open, collaborative relationships with the accounting team and ensures employees under his/her direct supervision do the same with others in the organization.
· Implement all standards, guidelines, and objectives in accordance with corporate policy; maintain administrative processes, such as budget and staffing, ensuring proper planning/efficient operation of the department and property accounting functions.
· Review and interpret unusual transactions to determine the appropriate accounting treatment; when appropriate keep key stakeholders informed
· Analyze and audit cash flow, forecast supplies, and oversee sources and uses of cash; initiate cash management activities to avoid theft/fraud. Ensure all properties have appropriate resources to manage daily transactions.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
· BA/BS in Accounting
· 3+ years’ progressive accounting experience.
· Proven written and verbal communication skills in order to clearly communicate and present unusual and/or complex concepts or issues in a convincing and understandable manner across all levels of management.
· Ability to influence without authority.
· Solid and diverse understanding of businesses and industries such that finance and accounting processes can be effectively applied across a diverse population of business activity and can be correlated to the hospitality industry specifically.
· Microsoft office, ADP, Solomon, and Profit Sage experience preferred
