About the role:
This is a leadership position within Oscar’s Finance organization, you will be an important contact for senior leaders across the enterprise. As a strategic partner, you will mature and manage the Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program for our company, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), Model Audit Rule (MAR), and Service Organization Controls (SOC).
The Director of Financial Control leads a team supporting financial reporting and underlying business process risk assessment, control design and governance for our technology-driven company. We are looking for someone who excels in a team environment and will take ownership of their program. You will analyze processes against inherent risk to lead recommendations for improvement are a must for this position. Communicate fact-driven conclusions and influence up is important in this position.
You will report to the SVP, Chief Accounting Officer. This is a remote / work-from-home role. You must reside in one of the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, or Washington, D.C. Responsibilities:
Lead a team of risk and control minded professionals to achieve the outcomes of our ICFR program.
Oversee a co-source partner through planning, scoping, control testing, and documentation.
Work with business and process owners to educate on a best-in-class internal control environment and to provide support to ensure controls.
Perform process-level risk assessments to determine the control mix for each cycle and the organization.
Lead the annual walkthrough process with controls owners and external auditors to ensure documentation reflects current business processes.
Communicate testing results to management and agree to corrective actions.
Make recommendations for controls and process improvements to leadership across the organization and ensure that all agreed upon recommendations are subsequently implemented.
Anticipate issues and work to resolve them.
Provide timely reporting to the Controller, CFO, Audit Committee, and other partners.
Work with external auditors with a goal to obtain control reliance for external audits.
Seek standardization and automation for managing internal controls and deploy creative technology solutions to improve the design and operation effectiveness of controls, documentation, and assessment of internal controls.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
10+ years of experience in financial statement auditing, Sarbanes Oxley compliance or a combination
At least 4 years of people management
Experience working with and presenting to senior management-level personnel.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
Experience leading people and collaboratively building a motivated team
Leadership experience at a health insurance company and/or technology company
Experience leading a complex SOX, MAR, or large internal control implementation project.
Bonus points:
Knowledge of internal auditing practices. You will interpret complex concepts and apply them in creative ways.
An understanding of financial, operational, and information technology controls.
Team-oriented, you will work with people at all levels of an organization from analysts to the Chief Executive Officer
