Finance Director Job Description

The Finance Director is vital to the Detroit Branch NAACP’s leadership team. They are responsible for the organization’s long-term financial health and growth. They establish strategies that will earn profits, oversee accounting operations, produce accurate reports on finances and improve or change current practices to increase efficiency. They must possess a passion for civil rights and social justice and be committed to fulfilling the mission of the Detroit Branch NAACP. The Finance
Director will be responsible for the administrative duties outlined below:

Finance Director General Responsibilities:

• Serve as internal consultant to the Executive Committee and Executive Director on all financial matters, making recommendations and suggesting pro-active strategies to keep

Detroit Branch NAACP on track.

• Provide oversight for and manage all budgets, forecasts and internal financial plans and processes.
• Support accounting, general ledger, and operations functions, ensuring that systems are in place to guarantee timeliness and accuracy.
• Drive best financial practices within the Detroit Branch NAACP by publicizing standard operating procedures, keeping the senior leadership team, Executive Committee, and staff up to date on the Branch’s financial status and by generally serving as a point of reference for all growth plans and projects within the organization.
• Explore and suggest how the Branch can invest its reserves and resources to generate passive income.
• Review short and long-term goals considering existing and projected financial resources available.
• Create data-based long- and short-term goals, budgets, and forecasts.
• Participate in all internal planning regarding the Branch’s proposed program expansion, to ensure alignment of program, outreach, and training plans with financial projections.
• Establish annual priorities and benchmarks and conduct regular reporting, measuring projections against actual performance.
• As needed, generate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to monitor, evaluate, and optimize cash-flow and liquidity.
• Build relationships with banks, donors, vendors, outside consultants and others as needed to keep close to Branch’s major expenditures and sources of revenue.
• Utilize technology to optimize all reporting and analytical functions.
• Ensure that the Branch meets critical regulatory and legal compliance benchmarks.
• Keep up with new trends in the non-profit financial industry by attending conferences, participating in professional development, and sharing this information with the senior leadership team as assigned by the Executive Director.
• Staffing Executive Committees as assigned and represent the Branch at community meetings as needed.
• Manage the agency’s liability insurance program and benefits program including ongoing risk analysis.
• Performing all other activities to support the Branch’s missions as assigned by the Executive

Director.

Finance Director Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Management. CPA preferred.
• 5 years of management experience.
• Experience at integrating IT/Systems to improve accounting productivity and accuracy
• Experience at working with external auditors, compliance, and regulatory oversight
• Commitment to results; ‘can-do” mindset; outstanding problem-solving ability
• Strong motivational and staff leadership abilities
• Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills
• Sense of humor, integrity, personal sense of accountability
• Knowledge of Office Suite and Excel and familiarity with software like Salesforce and

QuickBooks

• Have a valid driver license and dependable transportation.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

Starting Pay: $70,000

Start Date: Applicants must be able to start at the time an offer is extended.

Pay: $65,144.65 – $70,000.00 per year
