Perform accurate monthly reporting, financial analysis and take responsibility for trust accounts and certain treasury functions. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end review preparation and the support of billing, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. The Accountant will have contact with Attorneys and the firm s Accounting Management Team, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
Essential Job Functions
1. Performs the month-end close process. This includes closing the month in the accounting system, report generation, preparation and distribution of reporting packages.
2. Performs financial analysis as needed.
3. Works closely with attorneys, administrative assistants, and firm administration to ensure requests made of the department are being resolved in a timely manner.
4. Prepares and records monthly journal entries and bank/deposit account reconciliations.
5. Assist with trust and IOLTA cash accounts. This includes recording deposits and payments out of these accounts and the daily monitoring of the accounts to insure all transactions are accounted for.
6. Prepares, initiates, and records wire transfers and ACHs.
7. Reviews daily cash activity.
8. Performs general ledger and system maintenance.
9. Assist with vouchering invoices received from vendors.
10. Prepares unclaimed funds analysis and files respective state reports on an annual basis. This includes communicating with attorneys on a frequent basis to understand credit balances on-hand.
11. Assist with the year-end financial statement review by preparing schedules and documentation for the external accounting firm.
12. Review expense reports for compliance and appropriate supporting documentation.
13. Assist with other functions (i.e. billing, analysis, deposit, payables, etc.) in the
Accounting Department when needed.
14. Work closely and communicate effectively with others in Accounting, attorneys, and support staff.
15. Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
16. Responds to client requests in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications
Education, Training and/or Experience
Undergraduate degree in accounting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

3. Effective interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills.
4. High degree of initiative and independent judgment.
5. Computer skills: Microsoft Office.
