Under limited supervision, oversee the firm’s supervision and surveillance programs by continuously strengthening registered representative and investment advisor representative (collectively, “investment professional”) adherence to firm protocols and their knowledge thereof, pursuant to FINRA, SEC, and applicable federal and state rules and regulations.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in Supervision and/or Compliance areas with an independent broker-dealer. Previous positions as an OSJ, manager of OSJs, Supervisory Principal, or Director-level Compliance roles are most aligned with the requirements for this job. Seeking a San Diego-based candidate to join the leadership team with strategic initiatives and work closely with investment professionals and Compliance to shape supervision programs of the future.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management of direct reports who are responsible for the review of new accounts, transactions, outside business activities, trade surveillance, and e-mail surveillance of independent investment professionals – ensuring the investment professionals’ adherence to firm policies
- Identify and manage the improvement or creation of firm protocols as they relate to above, and collaborate with Compliance to manage processes to communicate violations, as well as remedies, to all parties
- Identify areas of risk for the firm, and suggest/enforce risk prevention measures by all means necessary, including investment professional education, employee training, etc
- Review and author written supervisory procedures
- Standardize and manage new business and transaction review processes; ensure Supervising Principal’s adherence to internal processes
- Identify areas of risk across all product lines and create/manage/delegate the handling of exception reports
- Subject matter expert on applicable technology, software, forms, and tools used to manage supervision-related responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the executive and management teams to provide strategic advice and direction on the firm’s supervision and surveillance programs
- Point of escalation for new business and trade review issues
- Stay current on investment professionals who are subject to heightened supervision by working closely with the designated supervising principal and the Compliance department
- Participate in recruiting and onboarding calls of investment professionals and internal team members
- Make contact with investment professionals and their clients directly, and as required on various fronts such as general education, industry changes, or client experience surveys
- Manage and/or oversee projects as it relates to supervision and surveillance
- Assigned to certain branches as the designated supervising principal, and perform daily review of new business and surveillance as determined by the firm
- Effective supervision as the first line of defense in guarding against sales practice abuses
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business or related field, or equivalent education and experience
- A minimum of ten (10) years securities industry experience, with at least five (5) years in a Supervisory or Compliance capacity, preferably with an independent firm
- Series 7 and 24 License(s), and 65 or 66 required. Series 4 required, or ability to obtain within 90 days. Series 53 or 51 required, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Life & Health Insurance license required, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Ideal candidates should have previous experience as a branch OSJ and strong knowledge of securities regulation
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year
