The Plant Manager is a newly created position that reports to the COO and will provide leadership, development, and direction for the company’s production campus in Moses Lake, WA. This site is currently under construction and will represent the largest facility of its kind in the world once completed mid-2024. This individual will set operational strategy and implement annual operating plans to deliver on company goals. They will oversee key portions of the organization’s recurring functions necessary for business execution and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiencies.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Strategy – Contribute to the broader corporate strategy and lead the development and execution of the site’s operations and manufacturing strategy.
Builds and Leads the Team – Attract, develop, and motivate the operations organization. Surrounds themselves and the organization with great talent.
Key Relationships – Build strong relationships with key external and internal partners to drive the production and distribution of products. Key external partners including vendors, suppliers, distributors, local officials, etc. Key internal partners include product management, research and development, supply chain, marketing, sales and human resources.
Quality and Customer Satisfaction – Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure high levels of product quality, On-time supply, and superior customer service and satisfaction.
Goal and Objective Setting – Set aggressive yet realistic operational and financial goals and performance metrics for the site (e.g. EBITDA, net productivity, etc.) against appropriate benchmarks and then monitor and drive accordingly. Lead the site through final construction, commissioning and start-up. Establish operational organization and staff appropriately. Improve net cost out projects and activities, reduce impact of inflation, manage capital expenditures, improve process cycle time, LEAN, safety improvement, human capital productivity, employee communications, new product launch support, etc.
Understand the Market – Analyze market trends, data, economic indicators (e.g. transportation inflation), and internal metrics to continuously improve the operation. Maintains professional and technical knowledge, review professional and industry publications, and establish
effective networks and contacts.
Forecasting & Planning – Prepares forecasts regarding future facility, equipment, raw materials, finished goods and workforce needs, and ensures manufacturing capacity is sufficient to meet business requirements.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in the manufacturing and distribution of new and existing products, including the organization’s infrastructure, equipment layout, workforce utilization and fleet.
Motivation, Training and Development – Identify and execute opportunities to motivate and develop the organization’s operational talent, including recognition, compensation, incentives, training and development programs.
Other – Performs all other tasks as appropriate or required to drive company performance.
QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Functional Experience: Proven experience in the operational management of large organizational units in a complex process manufacturing environment. Strong focus on lean manufacturing with a proven, successful implementation of a production system.
Relevant Industry Experience: Deep experience in chemicals and/or materials manufacturing, ideally worked as a supplier to an electronics or automotive OEM.
Operational Leadership and Characteristics: Ability to build strong self-directed teams with bench strength for succession. Balance the need to set long term strategic direction with the need to get into the details and operate at the floor level.
Team-oriented and collaborative business partner: Proven track record of successfully working across the C-Suite and as a business partner with a top management team; builds trusting and effective relationships with leaders across the enterprise.
Hands-on leadership style: Leads by “doing.” Proven talent developer and talent attractor. Demonstrated ability to lead a function and implement programs which attract and develop talent and organizational capabilities.
Strong Communicator: A confident businessperson who is professionally assertive, but a listener first. A credible communicator that gains the confidence of key stakeholders (internal and external).
Integrity: Possesses unquestioned integrity and strong business ethics. Leads by example, displays a positive attitude, demonstrates a strong commitment to company values and is well-aligned with company culture. Has the professional reputation and record of achievement to establish trust and credibility with subordinates, peers, the Board, strategic partners and other stakeholders.
