We are looking for Assistant Youth Mentors for our before and after school childcare programs who have a passion to help inspire children to be lifelong learners.
What You Will Do as an Assistant Youth Mentor:
• Child Care Mentors will report to the Site Leader and Child Care Team Leader
• Make a positive, lasting difference in the lives of children and their families.
• Supervise each child in your care by being able to identify, SEE, HEAR, DIRECT and ASSIST to ensure their safety at all times.
• Adhere to the small group/ratio established by DHS. Accurately maintain attendance of children in your care.
• Actively engage in all child care activities with passion, patience and finesse.
• Uphold all YMCA/DHS/Keystone stars guidelines for overall commitment to quality in child care.
• Maintain daily attendance records, mobile emergency contact binders, trip binders, allergy reports and other mission-critical documentation.
• Be a vanguard for children’s development, providing effective, timely communication of each child’s progress to families.
• Provide families with communication through verbal and written feedback daily/weekly.
• Cultivate a sensitive, patient child care environment for both children and families.
• Provide care to meet the individual needs of children / families.
• Be an avid defender of confidentiality.
• Model / set the tone for correct verbal interactions with families.
Qualifications:
• High School degree or equivalent (required)
• Verify 2 year’s child care experience
• Experience in child care or daycare
• Experience with childcare program sizes of 50 to 100 children preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information and to convey detailed, spoken instructions to staff, members, children, and volunteers accurately, quickly, and loudly. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds by ear; ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds; ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling. Ability to move about on foot quickly; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where they actually are and clearly see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The physical environment requires the employee to possibly work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure such as hearing protection and rubber gloves.
Acquire and maintain the following certifications:
• CPR/AED/O2 (valid 2 years with exception of Aquatics to renew annually), First Aid (valid 2 years) obtained through the American Red Cross
• Requisite OSHA online trainings (valid 1 year unless otherwise noted)
• Mandated Reporter Training (valid 5 years)
• Additional training and development specific to your role as reference in onboarding packet.
