Title: Financial Controller
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Salary Range: $80,000 – $90,000 annually
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the CFO, the Financial Controller directs and manages all the accounting functions of Gang Alternative. We are looking for a results-driven and confident financial controller to manage and improve our organization’s financial performance and direct our accounting operations. Duties for the financial controller will include managing accounting records, evaluating, and managing risk, ensuring compliance with regulations, publishing financial statements, overseeing accounting operations, analyzing financial data, monitoring expenditure, forecasting revenue, coordinating auditing processes, and ensuring accuracy of financial information.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, a flair for numbers, be highly organized, and have excellent leadership skills. The noteworthy financial controller should streamline our accounting functions and operations, provide financial analysis and reports, train staff on business finance issues, promote regulatory compliance, and drive income generation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis.
Supervises the Senior Accountant
Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development.
Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies.
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
Prepares budget line items and budget narratives for grant applications.
Prepares budget modifications, carryovers requests, and continuation applications (budget component) for grants as needed.
Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Works with program staff in preparation of budgets, amendments, and managing their financial performance including assessing potential impacts for agency, for review and approval by CFO in QuickBook and other applications including funder formats.
Qualifications And Competencies
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration or related discipline.
Ten (10) or more years’ experience, as a senior level accountant or financial management. Accounting experience preferably with a governmental or non-profit agency or with an agency that provides governmental accounting services.
Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant).
Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis.
Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes.
Ability to prioritize and self-direct, analyze situations, identify situations where appropriate to make decisions.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Ability to research, analyze, evaluate, and report complex financial data.
Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to provide a high level of customer service, establish and maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.
Working knowledge of financial accounting software packages, preferably QuickBooks and Paycom.
Skill in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel). Trust Central SAMIS experience is a plus.
Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
Ability to use critical thinking skills to arrive at solutions and suggest improvements to processes.
Note:
This position may require independent travel between workstation and other sites and errands. Consequently, the incumbent must maintain a valid Driver’s License and insurance coverage on personal vehicle at all times during employment.
Performing the duties of this position requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, reach, talk, hear and lift presentation materials, including equipment.
