Job Description:
Summary
The holder of this position inputs data into the loan accounting system and ensures accurate record keeping in accordance with GAAP and as determined by accounting guidelines. Performs moderately complex accounting activities related to the maintenance of accurate and complete accounting records, general ledger and resulting managerial reports.
Responsibilities/Duties
– Ensures accuracy and timely posting of loan accounting data.
– Reviews members’ loan account for each receipt, determines appropriate transactions for money received, and posts payments through the appropriate systems.
– Verifies that expenses are appropriately allocated and assessed to applicable loans and documentation is placed in appropriate subsidiary files.
– Handles maintenance and corrects transactions as needed.
– Reviews daily reports for responsible branches, including maintenance that may be required upon review of reports.
– Reconciles 299 suspense accounts daily, documenting all activity, and balancing to general ledger.
– Maintains subsidiary ledgers for select asset and liability accounts.
– Prepares and submits monthly/quarterly/year-end reports in a timely manner.
– Serves as a back-up bank reconciliation preparer.
– Efficiently and effectively addresses any questio ns that arise from both internal and external customers.
– Required to complete training materials assigned by the association in a timely manner; applies new skills to work processes; expected to maintain a level of knowledge necessary to perform job functions.
Required Education/Experience/Knowledge
– Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
– 1-3 years of accounting and/or accounting systems experience.
– Knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting practices).
– Ability to learn and retain knowledge of First South’s accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
– Computer literacy including spreadsheets, word processing, and database management.

– Possesses sufficient communication skills, both written and oral, to represent the Association in a professional manner.
– Ability to initiate, organize, and prioritize work required.
– Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
– Problem solving and Decision Making: Functions under managerial direction. Handles complex projects.
– Requires evaluative and analytical judgments on a regular basis.
