Temporary 1 day ago Full Job Description Background The Cooperative Institute for Severe and High-Impact Weather Research and Operations (CIWRO, formerly CIMMS) at The University of Oklahoma is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate position for a project funded by NOAA and led by School of Meteorology Faculty Dr.
Kathy Pegion, Associate Professor and Williams Chair in Earth System Prediction on Subseasonal to Seasonal Timescales.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to the Subseasonal Experiment (SubX) by performing predictability and prediction research on a suite of model re-forecasts and real-time forecasts.

edu/SubX Responsibilities Investigate sources of predictability and prediction skill on subseasonal timescales.
Investigate sources of model errors and their impact on subseasonal predictions Work with the user community to evaluate subseasonal skill of user relevant quantities o Collaborate with CIWRO scientists, SoM students and faculty, and NSSL scientists on subseasonal predictability and prediction.
Process real-time forecast and re-forecast data and produce forecast graphics Write papers for the refereed literature and present the results of findings at national meetings.
Required Qualifications PhD in atmospheric science, meteorology, oceanography, climate dynamics, or a related discipline Experience performing data analysis of weather/climate datasets in Python.
Evidence of scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, or other products.
Excellent written and oral communication skills An ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others Additional Desired Qualifications (not required) Experience running global climate/weather models (e.
g.
, NCAR-CESM, NOAA-UFS) Experience with verification of forecast and re-forecast data Background in initialized prediction and predictability research (e.
g.
, NMME, International S2S database, SubX, NCAR initialized prediction experiments, GFS re-forecasts) Background in large-scale climate variability and/or general circulation Experience using Xarray Applicants should clearly identify which aspects of subseasonal to seasonal predictability and prediction they are interested in working on.
