The Opportunity and Role
Manager, Community Finance Innovation and Analytics Team, Learning and Development Programs
Capital One’s Community Finance (CF) team originates debt and equity to support affordable housing development. CF provides debt financing and invests in low income housing credits through proprietary and multifund equity fund structures. Groups within CF include Innovation and Analytics, Originations, Underwriting and Portfolio Management, and Loan & Equity Administration.
The team is on a journey to reimagine the way it operates through a more strategic approach to its core work and advocacy efforts, next-generation analytical and reporting capabilities, innovation that leverages Capital One’s scale and influence, and talent. This combination of being a well-managed, data-driven organization with core strengths in financing affordable housing is what will help distinguish CF from its peers and deepen our impact.
As part of this journey, CF is launching a suite of programs to support CF associates’ learning and development. In collaboration with HR and broader EA, CF will provide a curated and customized set of learning and development resources and opportunities, including but not limited to: online skills development and training resources, CF business related subject matter expertise learning sessions, carefully crafted shadowing and on the job learning experiences, and a mentorship and rotation program across vertical community finance teams for junior to mid-level CF associates.
The team seeks a project manager to both lead the initial build and evolve and grow the related programs over time.
Responsibilities will likely include:
Inclusive Talent Orientation:
In partnership with HR and broader EA, design and lead learning and development (L&D) programs open, welcoming, and appropriately supportive to a diverse and broad set of potential and current associates interested in a Community Finance and broader social impact career path
Collaboratively create high ROI on-ramps for new-to-field and new-to-Capital One associates to initiate and accelerate their Community Finance career journeys
Actively partner with the CF leadership team and broader people leaders to identify and address L&D needs and interests for groups of and individual CF associates, including experienced associates
Exemplify an “always on” approach to talent – identifying, mentoring, and coaching current and potential future CF associates on strategies for success in CF
Leading in Context:
Understand and influence CF and broader EA strategy and vision and support the organization’s ability to execute, innovate and deliver on that strategy
Ensure a results-forward orientation to all planning, especially related to projects which have strong connectivity to the business success of CF, other areas of External Affairs, and the enterprise
Establish, collaboratively, a set of goals, KPIs, and evaluation metrics for your major responsibilities to be tracked and communicated throughout the lifetime of those responsibilities
Utilize a substantive and diverse set of information and inputs – including sources offering L&D best practices – to evaluate L&D project and program design and delivery options
Building and Continuously Improving the Model:
Collaborate with HR, EA, outside coaches/consultants/vendors, and the enterprise to deliver excellent learning and development-related opportunities to CF and, as appropriate, to broader EA
Design and deliver a multi-faceted approach to the L&D needs of Community Finance associates of different skills, experiences, levels, and areas of expertise
Lead strategic initiatives for outcomes, tracking multiple complex projects simultaneously
Whenever possible, seek and use data to inform reporting on performance and in ongoing decisions, especially on time-, budget- and resource-intensive projects and initiatives
Steward a well-managed environment while fostering an inclusive and innovative culture
Seek and incorporate stakeholder and associate feedback throughout the build and delivery of lifecycle of key deliverables, projects, programs, and initiatives
Incorporate associate voice in design and implementation of L&D project and program design and delivery
Demonstrate broader community, enterprise, and EA perspective in the performance of all regular and special project responsibilities
When planning projects and initiatives, outline several routes to success to protect against foreseeable problems compromising overall success
Communication and Connectivity:
Utilize inclusive communication practices to ensure all audiences are served by and welcomed into discussions and dialogues both related to learning and development and beyond
Provide important context, information, and counsel related to your responsibilities and subject matter expertise to a wide array of interested associates on a regular basis
Maintain healthy and open lines of communication – including regular updates – with a wide group of associates and, as needed, broader stakeholders
Call on a community of both engaged and critical stakeholders to help create opportunities and solve challenges if and when their help will make the difference
Raise and, as appropriate, help resolve the obligation to identify and do the right thing in challenging moments
