Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Controller – Director of Regional Finance, the Manager of System Finance is responsible for implementing the organizational and the departmental mission, vision and goals. The Manager of System Finance is responsible for all aspects of the Accounting Department’s staff management and performance and for creating a professional environment that focuses on the customer. The Manager of System Finance’s administrative responsibilities include planning, coordinating, organizing, controlling and implementing all activities and responsibility areas of the Accounting Department. The Manager of System Finance is responsible for communicating the above to the staff and other members of the healthcare and administrative team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates effective leadership in organizing, mentoring, educating, and overseeing staff within the System Accounting department.
Issues timely, accurate and complete financial statements. Maintains the general ledger and is responsible for monthly closing activities, ensuring that monthly account reconciliations are complete and timely, reviews and provides logical explanations for monthly and annual variances in general ledger accounts and statistics.
Oversees the operations of the accounting, payroll, and accounts payable functions and ensures that they are adequately staffed with qualified personnel and that evaluations are performed timely and the job descriptions are current.
Maintains systems of control over accounting, payroll, and accounts payable transactions including maintaining orderly filing systems and a documented system of policies and procedures.
Assures efficient Accounts Payable and Purchasing information flows and personnel coordination with the BHS Supply Chain department.
Responsible for the review and integrity of staff work product.
Assures compliance with federal, state, and local government laws and regulations and acts as a liaison with external stakeholders in providing required reports and information.
Provide financial and compliance expertise to BHS entity leaders and other management.
Manage all executive benefit plan financial transactions, including the work product of 3rd party consultants, and maintain the ability to explain the transactions to other BHS financial leaders and plan participants.
Develops, maintains, and ensures compliance with policies and procedures for department and ensures departmental compliance with other system policies and procedures.
Coordinates activities associated with preparation of the annual Benefis Health System capital and operating budgets by providing qualified staff to fulfill capital planning and operational budget support to the process, assuring the creation of accurate budgets for key system expense types, and providing interpretive insights.
Coordinates all activities associated with the annual external audit and ensures that audit adjustments are minimized.
Coordinates the preparation of tax returns, annual cost reports, and other regulatory filings.
Oversees the accounting for system subsidiaries, especially their financial control systems, financial transaction processing, and related policies and procedures.
Provides support to regional hospitals, as required, including posting of journal entries, the monthly closing of each entity’s general ledger, the publishing of monthly and annual financial statements, and filing of annual cost reports.
Manages and tracks the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines and manages cash flow planning and reporting.
Monitors debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
Provides financial analysis as needed.
In conjunction with BHS Information Technology and other finance leaders, oversee and coordinate all activities related to software accounting system upgrades or conversions. This includes systems used directly by accounting staff and systems that feed information or transactions to primary accounting systems.
Creates an annual work plan for departmental goals and strategies and displays sound fiscal judgment and control of the department as evidenced by achieving budget, productivity and other management goals.
Is flexible, organized, and functions well under stressful situations. Maintains good working relationships within the department as well as with all other Benefis Health System departments.
Consistently demonstrates initiative and a professional, self-directed approach to department responsibilities and an ability to meet deadlines.
Stays current on developments in healthcare and healthcare regulations through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attendance at professional meetings, conferences or workshops.
Accepts additional projects and responsibilities as assigned

Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
Minimum of 6 years of experience, healthcare and management experience preferred.
CPA or CPA candidate required, or a minimum of two years of public accounting experience
Master’s degree with emphasis in Business, Finance or Healthcare preferred.
