JOB SUMMARY
The RBS Director role is a hybrid position that provides system-wide leadership, research and financial administration to support OhioHealth Research Institute (OHRI) activities.
This includes a comprehensive clinical research trial portfolio, grant opportunities, pharmaceutical / CRO collaborations and partnerships.
The RBS Director is responsible for directing all financial activities associated with industry, multi-center network / consortium studies, investigator initiated trials, and OHRI’s administrative areas.
OHRI’s research business services team provides core services including clinical trial budget and contract negotiation / development, clinical research billing review, grants management, pre and post-award financial accounting and overall operational accounting on behalf of OHRI.
Research Business Services spans the health system service area and manages finances for OHRI activities across multiple hospital campuses and private practice locations.
The RBS Director will lead, hire, direct, teach and supervise direct reports and research personnel in OHRI ensuring quality and compliance within the department.
The RBS Director is a leader with a presence who has exceptional planning and organization skills to lead operations in a matrixed environment.
This position reports to OHRI’s Senior Director of Research Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Research Pre / Post Award Administration
50% Clinical Trials Award : Provide leadership for 6-8 FTEs comprising of 1 OHRI Research Business Manager who oversees 3-4 research finance coordinators and 2-3 billing coordinators.
Oversees clinical trial contracts and budgets, coverage analysis, pre-award budget negotiations, CTMS study calendar build-out and captures post-award revenue accrual activities.
Collaborates with OHRI directors. Serves as a resource for physicians and clinical trials staff. Understands Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements to capture and direct research billing activities for OhioHealth.
Advises senior leadership of new research finance or grant trends and information. Facilitates communication with internal / external contacts to resolve barriers including budgeting and contracting issues, underfunded trials and billing issues.
Collaborates with OHRI directors, investigators, research nurses / coordinators, regulatory coordinators, and other staff to assist in developing financial plans for research projects.
20% Office of Sponsored Programs : Works closely with OhioHealth foundation and other depts to direct a team of 3-5 grant consultants who provide administrative management of programmatic grant applications and ensure awards are disseminated in compliance with sponsor, state and federal regulations / policies.
Collaborates with OhioHealth corporate finance to facilitate routine annual audits.
Research Business Operations :
30% Research Business / Financial Operations : Development and maintenance of the OHRI annual and service line research budget.
Oversees team of 3-4 administrative FTEs who provide research IT / Database support the research portfolio and system projects (REDCap, CTMS, EPIC).
Develops budgets for capital expenditures and other new business opportunities. Develops contracts and budgets for capital expenditures as needed.
Maintains metrics to track, trend and create / present reports provided to OHRI leadership. Collaborates with corporate finance to conduct annual risk assessments of research activities.
Prepares monthly reports for senior leadership. Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Assists the Senior Director Research Operations to plan and execute the strategic vision of OhioHealth. Acts as departmental liaison on internal and external committees i.
e., OHRI Steering Committee, Service Lines, Academic Affairs, Office of Human Subjects Protections, and Corporate Accounting.
