Our client is a family-owned high-end rug company with showrooms in Los Angeles, New York, and (soon!) London. They work with artists and interior designers to provide top-quality vintage and contemporary rugs to their clients. They are seeking a forward-thinking Director of Finance and Administration to own the accounting and finance functions for the business, working closely and collaboratively with the HR/Operations departments and the leadership team. The ideal candidate will possess a continuous improvement mindset, understand the underlying business and its sales and profitability drivers, and propose process improvements to streamline workflow, improve timelines, and identify and assist in assessing cost improvements.
This is an in-person role in Los Angeles, CA.
Responsibilities:
– Oversee both day-to-day and high-level finance and accounting operations – building out appropriate team to support both as the business scales
– Manage inventory accounting and ensure quality of reporting of cost of goods sold and gross margin, inventory reconciliations, forecast-to-actual, and beyond
– Work closely with the company’s HR team on payroll, 401k, P&L, budgets, etc.
– Support timely and effective GAAP-compliant financial reporting
– Partner with cross-functional teams on process improvements
– Collaborate with the leadership team for short- and long-term financial planning, envisioning where the company will be in 5-10 years, and making the necessary calls and changes to achieve said vision
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or similar field, required; MBA a plus
– 7-10+ years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3 years of inventory accounting experience
– History of working in home furnishings, consumer goods, and similar companies with physical products; ideally within a luxury/high price-point product category
– Experience working with international and/or multi-entity companies, a big plus
– Familiarity with Quickbooks, required; exposure to Filemaker inventory management software a plus
– Ability to lead a small team, but also work independently
– Roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and positive mindset
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
