We service our clients primarily in the NYC Metro area as well nationally through our AAFA and NPA networks.
Our client, a prestigious fashion company, is looking for a Staff Accountant to join the Finance team in New York. This is a generalist accounting role with responsibilities in many areas of the department, including general ledger accounting, the monthly financial closing process, certain accounts receivable related tasks (invoicing, collections, chargebacks), and other finance and accounting activities. The position will report directly to the Financial Controller.
Main Responsibilities:
· Prepare and post monthly journal entries and provide detailed support.
· Review and analyze transactional data and prepare monthly balance sheet account analyses, reconciliations, and roll-forward schedules.
· Prepare bank reconciliations.
· Assist with the monthly financial closing process.
· Ensure that all shipped goods have been properly invoiced, either manually or through EDI
· Reconcile shipping reports to the invoice journal and investigate/resolve any discrepancies
· Manage customer deposits by preparing proforma invoices.
· Monitor the A/R email inbox daily to ensure timely response to all inquiries.
· Assist in the collections process of the company. Proactively and effectively communicate with customers on past-due balances and resolve any discrepancies/chargeback issues.
· Deposit, process and record incoming cash receipts.
· Prepare a weekly A/R Aging Report and maintain an accurate record of all client communications in order to effectively track key metrics.
· Proactively identify at-risk clients and communicate any collection issues to the Financial Controller.
· Serve as a liaison to other departments to reconcile and resolve client issues/concerns
· Assist in preparing deliverables for year-end audit and tax return preparation.
· Perform ad hoc tasks and special projects, as needed.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting with a minimum of 2 years of full-time accounting and/or auditing experience (excluding internships).
· CPA (or working towards a CPA) a big plus.
· Public (Big 4) and/or private accounting experience preferred.
· Strong financial systems skills preferred. Experience with NetSuite a plus, but not required.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel (e.g. V look ups & pivot tables) and Microsoft Word skills required.
· Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
· Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with acute attention to detail.
· Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a team-player.
