Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Finance Director Consultant to join our team for a 3-month engagement. Our client is a dynamic player in the construction industry, specializing in commercial projects with revenues up to $5 million. This position offers an excellent opportunity to lead and drive financial excellence in our construction projects, ensuring accurate cost allocation, effective budget management, and streamlined financial processes.
As a Finance Director Consultant, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and optimize the financial operations of our construction projects. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective budgeting, and efficient project cost management. Your role will encompass the following key responsibilities:
Construction Controllership: Take ownership of financial control and governance within the construction projects, ensuring adherence to financial best practices and compliance standards.
Business Acumen: Leverage your strong business acumen to provide insightful financial guidance and support to project stakeholders, helping them make informed decisions.
Team Evaluation: Review and evaluate the performance of reconciliation, Treasury, Accounts Receivable (AR), and Accounts Payable (AP) teams, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
Stakeholder Engagement: Engage in discussions with key customers and suppliers, building strong relationships and addressing financial concerns.
Contract Review: Review contracts associated with projects, ensuring alignment with financial objectives and identifying potential risks or opportunities.
Forecasting and Budgeting: Lead the forecasting and budgeting processes for construction projects, collaborating with relevant teams to create accurate financial projections.
Construction in Progress (CIP): Oversee CIP accounting, ensuring proper tracking, allocation, and reporting of construction costs.
Job Costing: Review and analyze construction job costs, ensuring accuracy and appropriate allocation of expenses.
Budget Approval: Manage the process of obtaining necessary approvals if budget modifications are required due to changing project conditions.
Weekly Progress Review: Review projects in progress on a weekly basis, assessing their financial health and identifying potential over-budget situations.
Revenue Recognition (Rev Rec): Ensure proper revenue recognition practices are applied to construction projects in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
ERP Utilization: Utilize the Vista ERP system for financial data management, extraction, and reporting.
Data Analysis and Modification: Leverage your understanding of databases and SQL to manipulate and extract data for reporting purposes.
Reporting Customization: Modify and enhance existing financial reports using tools like Spreadsheet Server, tailoring them to specific project requirements.
Remote and Onsite Collaboration: While remote work is feasible, being available for occasional onsite visits is highly advantageous to facilitate smoother communication and project coordination.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s degree or relevant certification is a plus).
Proven experience as a Finance Director, Controller, or similar role within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, and financial analysis.
Proficiency in using ERP systems, with experience in Vista ERP or similar systems.
Familiarity with SQL and database management for data extraction and analysis.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Problem-solving mindset and ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
Flexibility to work remotely and travel onsite as needed.
