Medical Mission Sisters are seeking a Full-time Director of Finance. This position supports the mission and charism of the Medical Mission Sisters of Unit North America by overseeing the finances of UNA and directing the Finance Department.
The Director of Finance supervises and annually evaluates the personnel performing the following functions: Full Charge Bookkeeper, Benefits Coordinator and Accountant. Functional relationships are with the Director Mission Development Center and PR, the Unit Administrator, and the HR Generalist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
General:
Organizational:
§ Oversees accounting and financial reporting functions of MMS UNA Operating Funds and Investments, Supplemental Subsidy Fund (MMS – SSF), the Custodial Funds, MDC, and the Annuity Investment.

§ Approves and coordinates any changes and enhancements in automated financial and management information systems for the Finance Department.
Insurance:
§ Reviews all insurance policies on an annual basis and ensures that the MMS have adequate property, casualty, liability and automobile coverage.
Legal:
§ Assists in addressing the financial aspects of legal situations.
Audits:
§ Reviews audit schedules and manages preparation for the annual audits.
§ Coordinates the activities of the auditors.
Tax and Other External Reporting:
§ Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal tax reporting requirements.
§ Prepares the annual NRRO Grant application and PHA grants applications.
§ Prepares individual Sisters’ tax returns
Committee and Board Participation:
§ Chairs the MMS UNA Finance Committee meetings and presents financial and other reports.
§ Organizes the agenda and minutes for the MMS UNA Investment Committee, attends the meetings and participates in the committee’s work of monitoring investment (UNA and SSF) performance and ensuring ethical investment guidelines are followed.
§ Serves as staff to the MMS-SSF Board and prepares requested materials.
§ Serves on planning and policy making committees as required.
Continuing Education:
§ Attends and represents MMS at conferences, meetings, seminars relative to its financial operations and to financial operations of religious congregations (e.g. RCRI, CORT).
§ Attends in-service training sessions.
§ Attends other professional education programs to stay abreast of current financial topics and trends.
§ Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in Business OR Bachelor’s degree in Business with experience
Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desirable.
A minimum ten years of experience in a financial management position with at least seven years in a non-profit/charitable organization.
Experience with strategic planning and financial projections.
Experience in supervising employees.
Experience in implementing and monitoring internal controls.
Experience with overseeing management of investments.
Experience with public speaking/oral presentations
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Strong comprehension, oral, and written communication and presentation skills
Ability to successfully interpret financial matters for non-financial people
OTHER SKILLS
Ability to perform complex numerical calculations.
Advanced knowledge of accounting and spreadsheet software. Ability to utilize word processing software and the internet.
Ability to multi-task and shift priorities as workload demand requires.
Ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and solve problems effectively.
Knowledge of financial issues related to religious communities and/or willingness to obtain such knowledge.
Strong self initiative.
A working knowledge of: applicable tax laws and regulations; financial accounting principles, practices, and procedures; principles and techniques used in developing financial projections, strategic planning, and financial analysis, best practices regarding internal control systems, generally accepted accounting and auditing principles and standards.
