Manager, Finance
NG Media
Primary Function:
National Geographic Partners (NGP) Finance & Planning team is seeking a high-performing Finance Manager to lead the NG Media editorial teams in their day-to-day financial activities, including monitoring the approval, budget, and financial status of story development and ensure payments for freelancer fieldwork fees and expenses are made in a timely manner. The Finance Manager will work closely with both the editorial teams and Finance Director to create projections and identify budgetary concerns during the development of a story or other editorial project. The candidate must maintain high benchmarks for accuracy and completeness. The position demands a problem-solver, and someone who is adaptable, motivated, and always maintains a positive can-do attitude.
Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of the editorial financial process through Excel, SAP, and Filemaker. Manage the budget approval process for stories and communicate budget status and concerns to the story teams and to the Managing Editor and Executive Team. Work closely with content-creative division members to update and revise story financial records from budget approval to publication. Work closely with the Finance Director to produce spending projections.
Supervise the processing of invoices and expense by the NG Media Finance team. Manage the resolution of delinquent accounts and payment difficulties. Work closely with NGP’s Accounts Payable division to ensure accurate accounting and maintenance of best practices.
Manage financial and travel databases. This includes completing a monthly review and reconciliation of financial records, creating reports as requested by senior management, and providing any necessary support to NG Media users. Work with IT to keep the Filemaker databases technically sound and user friendly, and ensure detailed financial information is readily available. Oversee Project (WBS Element) creation and management in SAP.
Assist Financial Director in submission or corporate deliverables, including AOP, Forecast, and Board Review materials.
Supervise procurement activities, including the management of Purchasing Cards, Corporate Cards, travel accounts through Concur, and special purchases for technical equipment. Maintain capital expense records for all acquisitions exceeding the CapEx threshold and work closely with the Finance Director to budget and project for the depreciation of those assets.
Contribute to additional projects as needed. Generate ad hoc financial reports on request.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Administration, or related field; 5-10 years’ experience managing budgets and financial transactions
Language/Communication: Impeccable professional communication skills; foreign language a plus
Mathematical/Reasoning Skills: Strong
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office; strong Excel Skills, experience with Workday, SAP, Filemaker, and T&E platforms like Concur and Expensify a plus
