Perform complex professional accounting work in the recording and reporting of financial transactions. Prepare financial statements, insurance department, and other regulatory filings, and perform analyses.
Ensure the timely and accurate posting, balancing, and reconciliation of the general ledger for each entity
Prepare work papers, financial statements, and various reports for internal accounting and auditing
Research and analyze fluctuations between current financial results compared to prior year, prior month, and budgeted amounts
Work with independent auditors and insurance department auditors to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements
Prepare insurance department quarterly and annual statements including the conversion from GAAP accounting to statutory accounting
Recommend changes in accounting systems and procedures
Assist business partners with budget activity, proper expenditure coding, document preparation, and other accounting-related activities
Review the work completed by the bookkeepers, bank reconcilers, and accounts payable clerks to ensure accurate financial transactions
Assist in the training of technical and clerical personnel
Job Specification
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience
4+ years of accounting-related experience, including working in a lead and/or training capacity
4+ years of experience using accounting and auditing principles and practices, including GAAP and statutory accounting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in spreadsheet applications
Clean credit history as reported by credit report
Regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of job duties

Financial responsibility for the operations of two manufacturing and distribution center
Accountable for analyzing manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports for standard cost variances and other operational performance indicators
