Job Description Summary

As an Accounting Associate in our corporate office, you will perform several accounting functions in accordance with VNA Health policies and procedures, AICPA guidelines, and legal requirements, including assisting with the completion of monthly financial statements, preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, payroll processing, reconciliations, and financial statement analysis. We are looking for a team player who can work under pressure to meet deadlines, and who prides themselves on completing assignments in an organized, efficient manner. You will report directly to our Controller.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Supports Accounting department functions including, general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and payroll.
• Maintains subsidiary ledgers, and reconciles to the General Ledger.
• Prepares journal entries for monthly financial statements.
• Analyzes monthly financial statements, and researches discrepancies from budget.
• Assists with payroll processing, including the tabulation of timesheets, and other payroll tasks.
• Assists the Controller with preparation for external audits, and pulls supporting documentation for auditors.
• Assists the Controller with entering and updating the annual operating and capital budgets into the accounting system.
• Assists the Controller with the completion of tax and regulatory filings.
• Creates departmental financial reports for distribution to management.
• Shows proficiency in accounting software, including the verification of general ledger activity.
• Assists with the implementation of new software and processes.
• Maintains procedures documents in an organized manner.
• Performs research on accounting topics and recommends solutions.
• Submits electronic bank deposits.
• Ensures Accounting department’s physical and electronic files are organized and complete.
• Maintains offsite storage log neatly and accurately, for efficient retrieval of documentation.
• Completes daily census report for distribution to management.
• Exhibits knowledge of state, federal, local and accreditation regulations for the delivery of home health and hospice services, as related to specific job functions.

Position Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Accounting and 4 years of relevant work experience (full charge bookkeeping experience preferred) 2 years of experience will be credited for a Bachelor’s degree.
• Very good written and oral communication skills
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Health care experience preferred
• Proficient at basic math skills
• Knowledge of alpha/numerical filing system
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

Physical Qualifications

• Ability to push/pull 50 lbs.
• Ability to stoop, bend and squat.
• Ability to walk up one flight of stairs.
• Ability to walk one mile.
