The subscription economy is mainstream and growing. Customers want faster access to product updates, ongoing support and education, and flexible consumption and commercial models. VMware is listening to our customers and working to provide robust and simplified SaaS & Subscription offerings. The work will focus on a deep understanding of what is needed at VMware and the considerations from a Customer Operations perspective to transition from a predominately license and maintenance business to a subscription and SaaS business over the next few years. The required thought leadership is broad ranging, from carefully navigating the bookings and revenue mix shift, to the implications from GTM changes that must accompany the transformation.
In this high-profile role, you will partner within the Customer Operations Finance and cross-functional organizations to provide governance, consistency, and strategic alignment in managing the SaaS & Subscription businesses. This will include being able to address key strategy questions, tee up critical decisions, develop scenarios with rigor and depth and to make actionable recommendations to senior executives in support of this transition.
Job Roles and Responsibilities will include strategic and operational aspects.
Drive and partner on MCSAP initiatives, focusing on Ease-of-Doing-Business and streamlining and solving the key problems for VMware to scale our SaaS motion
Drive Lead-to-Cash SteerCo, OLT and other SaaS initiatives (i.e. Rate Card, Commitment-based-Contracting, SaaS upgrade programs such as SUP and VMCU, Metrics, Enterprise Subscription Program, other flexible business models); thought leadership framework on SaaS & Subscription transformation for the Customer Operations Finance organization
Be a thought leader for the license to subscription journey and the transformation and change management that is needed, understanding external market conditions and trends, competitive analysis, and industry best practices
Thrive in a rapidly changing environment to prioritize most important questions of the day
Develop narratives to garner executive level support and feedback; and synthesize and distill differing perspective to and present the most viable options to leadership to close out on the key decisions and big strategy questions
Lead the SaaS & Subscription transformation effort on behalf of Customer Operations Finance, with special alignment to the Deal Management Team SaaS Global Process Owner
Partner with cross-functional organizations to provide governance, consistency, and strategic alignment in managing the SaaS & Subscription businesses
Manage a small direct and also matrix team which includes a broad cross-section of internal stakeholders; critical to align with BU Finance, Sales, Sales Ops, Corp Finance, Customer Success, and other operations teams to develop strategies and solutions
Concisely understand the business problem, get to data driven analysis, and propose solutions that can be implemented in the VMware context
Connect the dots from various perspectives and contribute to change management, with special emphasis on how this will impact the Go-to-Market sales motion
Write and communicate complex business issues in a simple, impactful way, generating compelling presentations and written documents for executive level audiences and working teams
Required Background and Skills:
15+ years of experience MINIMUM in Enterprise Software
5+ years of experience MINIMUM in SaaS and Subscription business strategy
MUST HAVE strong knowledge and experience of SaaS and Subscription businesses and the key elements required for transformation
Superior analytical, strategic conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of market trends for license to subscription journey
Able to turn complex ideas into simple, compelling executive level presentations
Outside-of-the-box thinker and strategic problem solver who simplifies problems to their core elements and finds creative solutions
Ability to structure and manage complex cross functional strategy projects with multiple stakeholders at senior executive levels product GMs, sales and GTM GMs across a wide range of business problems
Experience managing and scaling strategy and analytics teams with matrixed reports
Get-stuff-done mindset with a strong bias towards action
