Work Location : Hybrid position that requires traveling three days per week to sites in the northern, central, and southern parts of New Jersey with two days from a home office or the New Brunswick based office.

Overview :

The primary responsibility of the Nurse Study Manager is to ensure successful, patient-oriented, safe, and effective conduct of clinical research related to the New Jersey Population Health Cohort Study.

The overarching goal of the NJ Population Health Cohort Study is to generate new knowledge to advance population health, well-being, and health equity in New Jersey and beyond.

The Nurse Study Manager will serve as a primary research resource for quality and safety-related concerns and issues arising during the study including answering phone calls during study hours, triaging participants’ concerns, communicating with clinicians leading study components, and designing and coordinating clinical process and management activities.

The Nurse Study Manager will serve as a senior resource for a team of Research Assistants who will be field based and facilitating the collection of biomarker data, including several thousand blood samples drawn from study participants in various locations around the state.

Responsibilities :

• Assists Principal Investigators in establishing and updating human subject protection protocols.
• Responds to research and safety-related questions from research participants and technicians during study hours (which may fall outside of the normal workday hours given the nature of the Cohort recruitment) and coordinating with PIs to ensure timely intervention or referral.

The incumbent in this position will be viewed as the study Chief Safety Officer .

• Adheres to clinical research protocols related to the study, including the design and implementation of an organized and successful phlebotomy protocol.
• Designs and translates study procedures (i.e., how many collection tubes are needed during phlebotomy) and responds to questions from study participants (participants are adolescents and adults from all populations).
• Travel as necessary throughout the state to address any in-home participant needs and to specimen collection sites to monitor process and performance.
• When necessary, processes collected samples through centrifugation, aliquoting, and freezing.
• When necessary, helps inspect and set up remote phlebotomy stations at Rutgers facilities.
• Participates in recruitment activities, structured interviews and data collection via telephone and by personal contact with survey respondents.
• Identifies protocol deviations and implements training strategies to address performance issues.
• Uploads necessary data, forms, and documentation pursuant to study guidelines.
• Attends and completes all required training for the study and participates in relevant study-related meetings.
• Stays current with safety- and phlebotomy-related best practices.

Required Skills :

• 1 year experience minimum of clinical experience required, 3+ years preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Current valid New Jersey Nursing license required with current valid Basic Life Support certification, maintained throughout employment.
• Phlebotomy experience required.
• Successful completion of Lab Safety and Human Subjects Protection (CITI) certification upon hire required.
• Experience working with diverse populations including non-English speakers.
• Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing and visual perception. Must be able to lift or excel force up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Vitalief partners with clients such as major medical centers and academic institutions that requires all on-site resources such as prospective Vitalief consultants to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19;

inoculated annually for Influenza; and successfully pass a Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis.
