Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center is a joint center between the University of Maryland Departments of Atmospheric & Oceanic Science, Geology, and Geography. ESSIC administers a cooperative agreement with the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center as well as the Cooperative Institute for Satellite Earth Systems Studies (CISESS), sponsored by the NOAA National Satellite, Data, and Information Services (NESDIS) and the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).
The Cooperative Institute for Satellite Earth System Studies (CISESS) is a national consortium of seventeen academic and nonprofit institutions, with leadership from the University of Maryland College Park (UMD) and North Carolina State University (NCSU). CISESS has a work force of about 150 people and Collaborations at other Institutions.
The Assistant Director of CISESS provides leadership and is responsible for the management of the business and financial activities of the CISESS Cooperative Agreement. The CISESS Cooperative Agreement is a 5-year agreement anticipated to reach $175M in total, including ~500 tasks supported by many UMD departments on campus and collaborations at other institutions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the pre- and post-award management including the annual proposal task submissions of about 120 tasks/year, financial reporting, award management, and maintaining the required training programs. The Assistant Director of CISESS is a member of the senior staff at ESSIC and the CISESS Executive Council. The responsibilities include takes leading on the annual budget cycle/submission cycle for CISESS and managing the matching funds for the Cooperative Agreement.
