Job Summary:
Assists the Finance Manager in the management of the financial activities and the accounting functions of The Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Command; supervises, monitors and evaluates the financial operations for the DFW Metroplex Command Finance Department including accounts payable and all general ledger transactions; supervises staff and manages financial matters, accounting, auditing, year-end closing processes, and grant management/reporting.

Supervisory Responsibilities (40%)
Plans, directs, and supervises the work of assigned staff; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion, ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides hiring/firing recommendations to the Finance Manager.
Assists with the selection of qualified Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable staff; assists supervisors in planning and conducting orientation and on-the-job training for the same.
Manages DFW Metroplex Command fund accounts; supervises and reviews accounting records, general ledgers, and financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
Supervises all aspects of Area Command Finance Department in the absence of the Finance Manager.
Financial Responsibilities (35%)
Directly oversees the month end closing process ensuring all departments within Finance meet scheduled deadlines and all companies within the Metroplex are closed on time each month.
Provides recommendations to Finance Manager to improve methods and procedures; initiates, explains and enforces new and existing procedures as directed, ensuring they are in accordance with GAAP and Salvation Army fiscal guidelines.
Supports Finance Manager in reviewing and signing checks for all units managed at Area Command.
Assists with the preparation of materials as required for internal and external audits.
Financial Analysis and Consultation Responsibilities (20%)
Assists in the preparation of reports which summarize and forecast the business activity and net financial position in areas of income, expenses, based on past, present, and expected operations for both internal and external sources.
Maintains the chart of accounts for each unit; updates and makes amendments where necessary.
Provides accounting support to employees at the Corps and Service Center locations on how to use the MBS, financial software, including how to properly perform data entry for check writing, and receipt entry, and how to run all reports; provides guidance to Corps on proper posting of income and expenditures.
Assists the Finance Manager with providing guidance to Corps Officers, and staff in preparation of their individual budgets; assists the Finance Manager in entering annual budgets for all locations.
Liaison Responsibilities (5%)
Acts as liaison to other departments, field Officers, Advisory Board members, and outside vendors; builds and maintains relationships with each.
Coordinates and provides in-house training for all staff and Officers in order to ensure standardization and competence
Other Responsibilities:
Conducts ledger analysis and research as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Materials and Equipment:
Personal Computer General Office Equipment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of manual and full accrual automated accounting systems including general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
Knowledge of Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office programs with demonstrated skill in the use of Excel, Word, and Access.
Knowledge of Great Plains or similar financial software.
Knowledge of budgeting, and forecasting techniques and have the ability to coordinate, plan, and administer budgets.
Ability to provide sound financial management with fiscal responsibility.
Ability to read and interpret financial information to provide operating results and forecasts which can be used for development planning and long-range planning.
Ability to provide leadership and direction within a department.
Ability to provide security and confidentiality of financial matters.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or related field,
and
Four years experience responsible performing financial and accounting duties with prior experience/training in governmental and/or non-profit accounting,
or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications:
Valid State Drivers License
One or more financial certifications (or the ability to obtain within an established timeframe)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language effectively.
Ability to understand and perform complex mathematical calculations.
Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
Ability to operate general office equipment including telephone, fax, copier, computer and printer.
Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, but not limited to the office environment.
