Job Summary:
This is an executive Finance position responsible for directing and coordinating activities of department, region, administrative division, or specific function of the financial institution by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Interaction with other departments within the organization and coordinating projects and action plans is paramount in performing the duties of this position. Position reports to the Market VP Finance and with a dotted line to the Region President.
Responsibilities:
Strategy – Identify through consultation with the Region President the key actions necessary to achieve the financial plan across the region, develop milestones to track progress.
Financial Plan – Align with functional leads to deliver goals (annual / periodic), develop annual growth plan and financial forecasts each month for the region. Evaluate the financial impact of plans and processes to achieve goals, assist other departments in their goals and processes, measure customer profitability, perform key analyses, etc.
Monthly Financial Reviews – Conduct monthly business reviews for market and regions; analyze results of operations / explain key drivers of variances to plan and forecasted results as well as manage Region Action Plans
Teams – Manage the site Finance Managers, Inventory Control, Centralized Profit Management and Compliance team, and any other direct reports to achieve goals; train staff for advancement
Accounting Oversight – Responsible for supporting the centralized close of the general ledgers according to policy, procedures, and timeliness. Provide review and approvals, as required, and for material, non-standard activity, including new material contracts (e.g., customer, supplier, and lease agreements), ensuring appropriate set up and compliance with our policies. Consult and work directly with the Sysco Business Services, Policy and Controls, and Technical Accounting teams to ensure compliance with our policy and controls.
Problem Solve – Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues and communicate resolution.
Analysis- Partner with other functions to ensure financials are properly stated and provide value-added insights.
Monitoring – Complete required reviews (e.g., payroll reports, inventory reports) and monitor and communicate key risks/opportunities each period ensuring alignment with other functions.
Administrative- Lead department meetings and other routine meetings with staff to inform staff on key updates and drive strategic priorities.
Compliance- Accountable for ensuring that Sysco’s Accounting Policies and Procedures (e.g., FAMM) and US GAAP are adhered to by all locations. Additionally, provide assistance and support relating to indirect and direct tax compliance.
SOX- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley controls, implementing changes to controls as required by our Policy and Controls team, and ensuring any findings of internal audit and external audit are remediated in accordance with the agreed upon timeline. Validate through self-assessments controls and risks are being mitigated.
Talent Development – Drive outstanding business results through traditional management functions including, but not limited to, sourcing and selecting diverse talent, coaching and development, performance assessment, training, general talent planning and project scheduling.
Continuous Process Improvement & Alignment – Work collaboratively with others within and outside of the function to identify, develop and implement process improvement plans, simplify and improve processes, reduce costs, prevent loss, and to ensure that work is completed accurately and on time.
Relationships- Develop close partnerships with other functions including financial reporting, policy and controls, tax, financial planning and analysis, shared service center leadership, local and national credit and sales teams, payables, account receivables, payroll, pricing and agreements, and field leadership, including other region vice presidents of finance, as appropriate.
Presentations- Prepare and present executive level presentations in a manner that is easily understood
Other – Perform a variety of other duties across a wide spectrum to evaluate the financial impact of plans and processes to achieve goals, assist other departments in their goals and processes, measure customer profitability, and perform numerous daily functions, etc.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting from a four-year college or university.
Additional Qualifications:
Travel will occur to other sites within the region approximately 1 – 3 times per month.
Experience
A minimum of 6 years in a lead Finance position preferred.
Foodservice experience preferred.
Professional Skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficient Microsoft Office skills.
A strong work ethic and a team player attitude.
